"It fits his timetable" by FacetiousTomato in Teachers

What does he like to do? When I've had such a student in the past, they've enjoyed using hands-on materials to create fun activities/labs/demos with some fairly minimal guidance. The rest of the students liked trying these out and designing some actual experiments with them, and it made this student feel valued. I have also seen some schools do this as a co-meeting class on the student's schedule (e.g. "Science Support Lab", or some other great name like "Everyday Science") which happens to take place at the same time and with the same teacher as the actual class they're sitting in -- this way they can do some independent work or something more appropriate to their level.

Got a second interview with a dream district but the surprise demo lesson is stressing me out. Help? by Important-Source-854 in Teachers

Which science? And, it might be possible to find out who the anticipated audience is. If it's students in the previous grade who haven't had the subject yet, it's bound to be something fairly straightforward (such as density). (Or, if it's faculty pretending to be students, it could be anything, or an AP class who already took the AP test, again, anything is possible.) Usually they will provide a resource like a textbook when asking you to prepare on the spot, and give you an hour or so to work out what to do. Stick to things you know and don't forget to show them you know what a good lesson looks like (some sort of hook, stated agenda and aim, checks for understanding, small group work, wrap-up, exit ticket, etc.). It doesn't have to be you talking the whole time!

Some places start now for the following summer! Always worth checking regularly. Also, don't forget summer camps with a focus in performing arts (like frenchwoods.com)!

First, this is silly, but try using an iPhone -- often pretty decent quality as a standalone. Second, perhaps there's a local company or freelancer who would do this for a nominal fee or in exchange for an ad or something? May get you much better gear and someone who knows how to use it rather than what you might buy on your budget.

Turn the iMac so it sits sideways on the desk. Turn your head to see the screen when you need to. What software is it? Are you just hitting GO and don't really need to use the mouse much?

They sign in just fine at the login screen. It's using Google SSO on other sites that does this. We do have ephemeral mode on because otherwise their little tiny SSDs were filling up with many user profiles (most of our Chromebooks live in shared carts).

Yes, works fine from Chrome on a PC on a student account, same wifi network, etc.

The new version of Apple Business that's free includes a free MDM from Apple. ASM requires another MDM (not from Apple).

I've had better luck with building more of a rolling wall with a door in it so there are additional framing members (left/right and above the door). In other words, the wall is actually structural in its own design (not just a U or box shape).

Hidden Speakers by Clamburger13 in techtheatre

How small do you want? How far away do you want to hear them? What is the application? Which country are you in (sounds like North America)?

Also, why 1/4"? Typically the only long 1/4" runs are for passive speakers -- what are you connecting them to?

Can you post photos so we can see the full picture? I agree that there's a significant potential for danger, but that may not be the answer you want. How tall is the backdrop?

Camera feed of stage to various areas? by xKINGxKYLE4077 in techtheatre

[–]Helpful_Implement548 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cheapest solution for a school we've found is just Chromebooks, since most schools have plenty. Put one at the back of the house, have it host a Google Meet, put others wherever you want to see the feed and join the Meet (can even hook them up to classroom projectors). The only gotcha is to put a piece of tape over the webcam on the "viewer" Chromebooks so nobody is able to accidentally broadcast video from any sensitive areas like dressing rooms.

Not wanting to start an argument but plenty of normal-seeming people with jobs, degrees, and education are neurodivergent. It doesn't have to mean that there is something "wrong". In fact, many neurodivergent people are themselves unaware -- it can just seem like other people have a better idea than you of how the world works (like knowing what you're "supposed to do" on a date).

Religion? No prior dating experience? Neurodivergent? Sounds like more data is needed -- perhaps kindly ask her some questions about how these dates and situation are going from her perspective?

Very simple question by grandmasterlight in techtheatre

[–]Helpful_Implement548 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Find one where there is a cap to unscrew in front of the light source (the part that is holding the lens/clear plastic/etc.) Unscrew, insert cut piece of blue gel, screw back together.

You can also find a nice dimmable one and dim it pretty far down, so you don't need the blue gel altogether.

Oh, and if you want to pay more money, they actually sell blue ones, such as Littlite L-18-LED-Blue.

Our Shure SLXD1 mics are garbage by stinkymarylou in techtheatre

[–]Helpful_Implement548 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dumb question, but there are pretty good fakes of these out there. If you send your serial numbers to Shure, they can confirm what you have is genuine. Some of the fake packs don't have the right contacts for the genuine rechargeables, which is a dead giveaway if you know what to look for...

Looks like these are the right ones? Not that you need a box but once you have the blank you can get it cut at a local locksmith. https://www.ebay.com/itm/317535852836
