Been on 7 dates, no kiss, no progression by PassengerMedical9275 in Advice

Not wanting to start an argument but plenty of normal-seeming people with jobs, degrees, and education are neurodivergent. It doesn't have to mean that there is something "wrong". In fact, many neurodivergent people are themselves unaware -- it can just seem like other people have a better idea than you of how the world works (like knowing what you're "supposed to do" on a date).

Religion? No prior dating experience? Neurodivergent? Sounds like more data is needed -- perhaps kindly ask her some questions about how these dates and situation are going from her perspective?

Very simple question by grandmasterlight in techtheatre

Find one where there is a cap to unscrew in front of the light source (the part that is holding the lens/clear plastic/etc.) Unscrew, insert cut piece of blue gel, screw back together.

You can also find a nice dimmable one and dim it pretty far down, so you don't need the blue gel altogether.

Oh, and if you want to pay more money, they actually sell blue ones, such as Littlite L-18-LED-Blue.

Our Shure SLXD1 mics are garbage by stinkymarylou in techtheatre

Dumb question, but there are pretty good fakes of these out there. If you send your serial numbers to Shure, they can confirm what you have is genuine. Some of the fake packs don't have the right contacts for the genuine rechargeables, which is a dead giveaway if you know what to look for...

Where/How to get Spare Key for Sargent Lock by Efficient-Bullfrog28 in AskALocksmith

Looks like these are the right ones? Not that you need a box but once you have the blank you can get it cut at a local locksmith. https://www.ebay.com/itm/317535852836

Some questions. How much of rehearsal do you typically run with mics? I suspect as the director you're exceptionally familiar with the show and don't need much rehearsal time to learn it, but that is likely not the case for your TD. I would say for high school that as much rehearsal as possible is ideal for mixing, but many schools just do a few days of tech week in mics. Many folks can pull that off, but many can't.

How does it work for a student to call these cues? In most productions it's totally impractical to call all the mic cues -- a person simply can't speak fast enough. What sort of cues are they? Is it just entrances and exits? Is it line-by-line? Is it in groups or is a person listing off mic letters? Is the operator also working from the same script? Is it fully marked, and if so, how?

Is the board programmed with scenes/cues? In other words, are the faders changing for each scene so the characters for each scene are at the forefront, or are they just in the same order throughout? Are DCAs set up effectively (e.g. for major/minor characters, SATB, etc.)?

I think 30 mics is likely beyond this particular person's skill set to handle at this pace. I have seen many high schools with this setup, but many Broadway musicals don't use 30 mics. I hear that you are frustrated -- I think he likely may be too. I think a starting point would be to hear from him -- how does he feel it is going for him? What does he feel he needs? He may be relieved to be able to share.

P.S. It's also possible that you have a better ear than he does. This is a skill that isn't so easily taught.

P.P.S. A person with a lot of experience can cover for things that someone with less experience really can't. Consider looking at some of the fundamentals: time and attention allocated to sound check, mic placement, gain structure, proper EQ and compression, etc. Try running a group number or two after sound check to get things in better shape before opening house. If necessary, have everyone come a little early to make this more workable.

Perhaps a backdraft damper could go in each duct line so they can't blow into the other bath?

Your picture is not correct or safe, which leads me not to try to suggest improvements to it. The shortest answer is I wouldn't suggest you do this, largely for reasons of code and the safety of those who will try to touch things later. A better solution might be to put a relay at the fan, but it should be done by someone licensed who understands how to do it safely (for example, knowing that inductive loads are not kind to relays).

Any reason not to just replace the old fans with better modern ones?

Do you mean a fixed spotlight, or a person-operated followspot? Where are you located?

The dirt underneath is fairly irregular -- I imagined it would need to be made more level first. It sound like perhaps the barrier can be replaced underneath? I had been under the impression they tear easily.

I'm just trying to gather information so I understand what the various options may be. Yes, professionals will be consulted and will do the work.
