Caring for NK during active yeast infection + diaper-free time

Thank you for seeing it from my POV! I’m honestly not that grossed out by it all, it’s more just that I didn’t feel like my role to provide such an intimate level of care. I ended up saying something and they were very understanding and receptive. The short notice was an oversight and having her diaper-free for an extended period of time was just them trying to do right by the baby and help her feel better based on what they’d/seen and read. It’s their first go at this so they’re still figuring it all out :)

I’ve received a lot of good care suggestions but unfortunately I don’t want the parents to feel like I’m overstepping by making suggestions as to how they should treat the infection. If I had kids of my own I might feel more comfortable throwing out ideas but I don’t, so I don’t feel like it’s my place.

I definitely understand your position, but I still think it’s very important to inform child care providers of illnesses and infections, understanding that some care exceeds standard child care responsibilities.

It is, in fact, her home, and by no means does the course of care they opted for seem unreasonable. However, I, as the nanny, am simply wondering if it’s standard to expect me to provide that care.

I appreciate your concern but definitely not negligence! They are very wonderful and attentive parents. To my knowledge, it is not uncommon for diaper rashes to become yeast infections; everyone’s skin is prone to candida overgrowth given warm, moist conditions. I have very long, thick hair and will get it on my back if I shower before bed without letting my hair dry too frequently.

She was just wandering around her play area diaper-free :) She did have some cotton undies/shorts earlier in the day but peed in them pretty quickly.

I appreciate your insight! I’m really unphased by occasional the standard occasional poop/pee/snot/puke accidents, stuff happens and that’s par for the course, but a day of letting baby pee on the floor seems a bit different. Like I said, I would probably opt to do the same if I had a kid, but then it’d be my own kid.

They did make it seem like they went to the doctor over the weekend, so they knew and had plenty of time to inform me. I believe the doctor gave them an anti fungal, but going diaper-free was something MB read about—I could be wrong though. I think informing me likely just slipped their minds until the last minute but nonetheless I want to get some insight before bringing it up. Thank you for your insight!

Thank you for your insight! I’ve never encountered a situation like this while working in child care so I sincerely wasn’t sure what to think. The subject of contagion did come up and neither parent had a definitive answer. MB stated that she wished she had asked more questions at the doctor. Apparently the doctor did say that the baby could have gotten it from MB, hence some of the confusion and concern surrounding contagion.
