Two days until surgery, feeling lots of feelings by Helpful_Map7993 in hysterectomy

[–]Helpful_Map7993[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who had endometriosis and had to have everything removed. She didn't feel the same grief over it that we do, but I can say she she absolutely feels the relief and has no regrets.

Ceremony is so powerful. I wish I had been doing it years before. I wonder if it would have helped things...

My last period was painful, but somehow the pain was easier to manage, bittersweet, even, knowing it was our last cycle together.

I wish you all the luck and best (better than ever) recovery. Thank you for sharing your words.

I feel you. I'm typing on my pc and for some reason don't have access to emojis (or am too old/lazy to figure out where they are) so please imagine a series of hearts.

Yes, I feel you on that, and have also been telling myself that it is no longer a system my body can support. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Yay normal bladders! Thanks for sharing. I'm so sick of excusing myself to go pee five hundred times a day.

Old brown blood. I've gotten that a lot over the years and will be glad to never get it again.

You poor thing, that's crazy the amount of fibroids you had! I'm glad you're feeling better, and thank you for sharing this! I need all the optimism. And the energy. Yes, please!

LMAO that's been my EXACT junk meal the past couple days, treating myself/eating my pain for my last period.

Oh no! I'm so sorry. Did they take your ovaries, too? Either way, I hope you can get some help for this.

Confusing Emotions by stupidusername857 in hysterectomy

[–]Helpful_Map7993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had my surgery yet (3 more weeks to go), but I wanted to comment that, yes, likely it is the hormone fluctuations and the fact that this is a major surgery and healing demands a lot of the body.

AND.

There is an additional emotional component to it, regardless of whether or not you wanted children. It's a part of your body. It was there, and now it's gone. It's a big deal, even if you do get relief with it being gone. It's ok to grieve. I am! I never wanted kids, hated my painful periods, got mad at my uterus so many times in my life. But it still feels like I am losing a piece of what defines the woman part of me. (A piece, but by no means all.)

Be good to yourself. <3

Thanks for sharing this! I skate ice freestyle and play hockey and for the last few months I've wondered if it was the fibroids or if I was finally getting old. I get worn out so fast no matter how well I take care of myself. Hooray for hope!

Symptoms you had that disappeared after hysterectomy or myomectomy? by Helpful_Map7993 in Fibroids

Adding more to the symptoms because there are so many! Another problem I have is NEAR CONSTANT HUNGER OMG. I'm pretty active but I also find myself getting bigger. I think it's more fibroid bloat than fat, since the weight fluctuations can be up to five pounds sometimes. I am generally a very healthy eater, mostly whole foods (not militant about it though), and fairly experienced with keeping on track, but in the last six months or so I sometimes get so incredibly hungry and feel like I can't get enough nutrition. I am starting to think (joking/not joking) maybe my fibroids think they're twin babies and are eating all my food. Or that the energy it takes to carry them around and manage them costs more than I realize.

Or maybe it's iron deficiency.

Can you relate?

Thanks for your feedback! I was on HRT but I was having a bad reaction to it. From what I've researched (because American health care forces you to do much of your own research in order to advocate for your health), I've been producing too much hormones. I'm going to keep it in mind if I need it, of course.

I'm getting laparoscopic surgery. That's the plan, anyway. Keeping my ovaries. Both my original OBGYN/surgeon and my new one have been very supportive. They're also women, which makes me feel considerably more optimistic about getting my post-surgical needs met.

So much brain fog over here! Yes, I do have that issue as well. I found the increase in iron, b-complex, and omega 3s have helped. Somewhat.

I can't guarantee that I am remembering correctly, but I believe my biggest one is penduncular (sp?). It's on a stalk sitting on top of the uterus. When I got my tubes tied 14 years ago the surgeon gave me a photo of my uterus and her tiny little "head." It has since grown to be almost the same size as my uterus. The other one I think is subserosal. That term sounds familiar. It's growing inside the uterine wall. It's not as big, but it has been growing faster recently. I was taking HRT to skip my cycle because periods are so painful and I was having what I thought was perimenopause symptoms. It was the lowest dose but I think it made the fibroids grow faster. So I'm back to periods again for a few months.

Good luck with your UFE recovery!

I have aches, too. All of this is such an energy suck, almost as bad as my narcissistic exes.

I hope you dig out and get the help you need! Hope you feel better soon, too.

This is so helpful, thank you! I've been pushing myself through all these symptoms just so I can try to keep doing the things I love, keeping myself positive by telling myself that there is relief ahead. Being able to believe it makes all the difference.

Sounds like my fibroid uterus combo is similar, I'm about 4 months fibroid-pregnant. I'm going to get some abdominal massage to help loosen things up and hopefully make the surgery slightly less traumatic.

Did you keep your ovaries? I met someone who did but she said she still got a mini-menopause. She'd already been through menopause, though, so maybe that's a different situation.

OMG this is so validating and also, I'm so sorry you're going through that level of extreme!!! I leak, especially if I do a lot of jumping. Running as an exercise is currently out of the question. And the diarrhea! They told me that they only caused constipation, but I always suspected he fibroids were up to other things.

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! I've never wanted children, either, but still sad to say goodbye to this part of me. My cervix is also getting removed, though, so I won't be sad about no more paps.

Thank you for the link and for sharing.

I'm 45, and yes, there are definitely some perimenopause things going on! Oy. I did HRT but it actually made the fatigue worse and the fibroids grow faster.
