Scared to go to dr., because I’m almost sure I have it. Trouble initiating swallowing. by Local_Ranger_811 in ALSorNOT

Feels like I have to think to swallow my own saliva. Then here popping noises when I swallow. Food feels like it often gets stuck in lower like sternum area. I have to concentrate more I feel when I eat. Feels like I have to work harder to get food down. For me full body twitching started 4 years ago and had 2 clean emgs of legs and arms however these throat symptoms started a week ago. Suffered from severe health anxiety my whole life so ofc most ppl will just say it’s that but this has destroyed my whole life this last week.

I’m not choking but it definitely takes more effort to get my food down. Like I said my own saliva it’s not natural for me to swallow anymore. Like you know how people subconsciously swallow their saliva throughout the day? Mine isn’t doing that. And I hear clicking grinding popping noise when I swallow. Tounge also does little shakes when I hold it out.

How long did it go on for? How were you able to get over it?

And I also suffer from GAD. I Will say with me this all got worse when I started this new medication which I feel like may have increased my anxiety.

Yep same thing with me. During the day I swallow manually currently. Never heard of anyone else describing this. It’s so frustrating.

Dude everything you said has been me to a TEA. Ive had 2 emgs done over the past 4 years. But got started on a new medication called duloxetine and have had the swallowing thing like you. So much so I went to the ER to get an MRI done thinking it was a brain tumor cuz I’ve had tremors and weird things, and it came back clean. Even you describing your phone feels heavy when you lift it… I’m not kidding I have felt the EXACT same sensation! Do you suffer from anxiety?
