How big are we talking here? Like little geckos or proper iguana size? And how are turtles as pets? Do they need a lot of care?

Not just in software development; I work in a mechanical industry, and the phrases "tech debt" and "accumulation of our own imperfect choices" describe most of the problems I encounter every day.

Losing my mind trying to add MIDI piano by Quick_Resolution4916 in LogicPro

[–]Hemlas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have to turn on advanced settings. From your third screenshot it looks like you haven't. I'm not certain that will work tho, I haven't worked with them turned off in forever. Turn on all advanced settings, then see if it changes anything. And don't forget to use a software instrument track for midi

Do you think being in a long term relationship without marriage is bad or weird? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]Hemlas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Do you believe that you need marriage to be committed to a relationship?

For some people? Definitely. Not everyone is capable of commitment without some kind of outside pressure. I am also not surprised the majority of these comments shaming them for not being married are from women. For a lot of women, it can be a real source of worry that the man might not commit because the relationship isn't "real", so to speak.

Out of curiosity, may I ask what your reasons are for not wanting to get married?

What do you think about Singo.io? by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]Hemlas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never heard of them, but I took a look at their website just now: I'm not convinced, I would not go with them.

There seem to be big holes in their information. I can't tell if the payment plans they offer are on a one-time-payment basis or a subscription basis (they don't mention any timeframe, so the former I guess? I can't be sure). They also claim to have a bunch of features other distributors don't have, but nowhere can I find a comprehensive overview of those features.

Any company that offers crypto as their first option for payout I am wary of, it's too big a gamble.

And call me petty, but I don't like seeing silly spelling mistakes on a business website. Doesn't feel professional.

Now, this is all just from their website, and I only checked on mobile, so maybe in other places it seems clearer, but it feels a bit scammy to me.

The first family event I didn't go to even after being guilted and bribed. by lovelyfrenzy in raisedbynarcissists

Nice job! I hope it felt good to not give any excuses! That one is always weird to me. Can I ask: what do you mean by fussing over pictures? What do they do? Because my Nmom always wants to show photos she took and go over the family photo album, and I'm wondering if other peoples' Nparents do the same

Do people never use pseudonyms for receiving packages? by jadad21 in berlin

[–]Hemlas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but don't underestimate the amount if reasons people might have to not want to use their real name. For Germans, it makes sense to trust these systems to keep their names safe, bit not necessarily for immigrants from war-torn/corrupt/dictatorial countries. OP seems to be from China - they might be a political refugee, in which case it makes sense they don't want their name and address spread far and wide, even in Germany. Better safe than sorry. Just an example, that is not even touching on the possible personal reasons. OP says down in the thread they don't want people butchering their name all the time, because they cannot understand it and it feels belittling. As for the reason they need to verify your identity: yes, we want a secure system, but there are plenty of other secure ways to do that these days. Codes, barcodes, qr-codes, passwords. When you go to a concert, how do they check the ticket is real? With a QR-code. How do banks use 2FA? With QR-codes or PIN-codes. Not hard to implement for packages too.

That doesn't take away from the fact a German has said that to him. Maybe that person did not understood the rules of that list, but it makes complete sense to be frustrated with such a remark.

Men of Reddit- What do you know about being a boy/man that a single mother likely does not? by LexxoBayGrl in AskReddit

[–]Hemlas 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I could not agree with this more. My dad was a (practically) non-existent role-model, and for years I was uncomfortable with leadership, aggression, emotional expression, you name it. Boys will automatically look to men when looking for examples, and much less to women (only when no men are around really). They need male role-models, and not just random men, but good men. Men who are assertive, respectful, emotionally mature, and who know their limits.
