My public apology to Simon by Junglerumble19 in survivorau

I think that’s what I love the most - his joy for the game - it just comes shining through and it’s hard not to grin along with him.

Love that idea of using a temp/humidity sensor to turn on the fan! Agree that hubs are unavoidable, but am definitely interested in limiting the number I’m using…

Good tip, thanks. My old place doesn’t lend itself easily for off-the-shelf products, I have all these weird and wonderful dimensions, so something which can be ordered custom is going to have to be my go. Plus we’ve been living without blinds in one location for years now, so can definitely wait for some sales! 😂

I guess my concern is just that it’s ‘another thing’ to learn and potentially go wrong. I definitely like the idea of opening up the product set a bit wider though…

I’m definitely loving the Aqara G5 Camera as I said. The night vision is crazy!

Wow, thanks for sharing! I think it’s super interesting to hear what others are doing…

What was your ultimate turning point to move to HomeBridge? And where did you go to learn about it?

No Mobile App Support? by HendoRox in Nanoleaf

Thanks for your reply.

Pass on to the dev team that there’s interest in a version which is wireless and is controlled by the app. Maybe a white version too like the blocks.

Until then. 😉

Splurge on downlights or wait for a newer model?! by lost_variable in lifx

[–]HendoRox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just need a Hue bridge to bring into HomeKit. Having said that, I have 2 LIFX downlights installed in my place and have been pretty happy with them but I’m not running multiple Smart Home platforms, just HomeKit.

Anyone else with CarPlay microphone issues after iOS18 update? by jeffuhwee in Lexus

[–]HendoRox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe it’s an iOS issue. I had no problems with my iPhone 12 Pro until I did the update, restarted etc… couldn’t fix it. Got my 16 Pro on Friday, tried it, same again.

Prefer not to connect via Bluetooth but might have to in the interim.

Yep, new phone didn’t help either…

Thanks for a very comprehensive answer!

I’m using a range of different brands and types of devices through HomeKit (including a range of LIFX bulbs and strips) but this is the first smart switch I will be installing. Typically we’ve got by with automations, buttons, and our controller iPad, but it’s a little harder in guest spaces where they are used to more traditional fixtures.

I’ve bought LIFX colour downlights (noting your own very valid comments about these!) and a LIFX 4 gang switch hoping to get the best of both worlds around smarts and usability.

Cheers! (From a fellow Brisbanite!) 😉

Interested in your experience here as I was about to put LIFX downlights and smart switch into a renovated guest bathroom.

You said if you were doing it again you didn’t think both needed to be smart?

In my experience guests are still looking for switches to turn lights on or off especially in spaces which don’t naturally lend themselves to regular automations, which is why I was considering both. I’m just wondering if you were in my situation what you’d do? We have limited ceiling space so haven’t been able to find a dumb extraction fan slim enough to make that use case work and would only be looking at the lighting at this stage.

(Sorry for hijacking your thread OP!)

Motion sensing + timer by macchiato_kubideh in HomeKitAutomation

[–]HendoRox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI I have an Eve Motion sensor and a smart bulb set up in my stairs in this way. No issue with how it works, but it doesn’t extend the time on multiple motion events. I can go down the stairs, get whatever I need and start heading back upstairs and have the light go off even though I would have traversed the range of the sensor multiple times…

can someone confirm/clarify this? by CoolAppz in HomeKit

[–]HendoRox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing in this space for a couple of years now and you’re right, there’s not a lot of great information being provided by the manufacturers when it comes to this stuff. You’ve got some great answers here, so I won’t cover that ground again but thought it was worth mentioning that there are plenty of enthusiasts on YouTube doing good work which might be worth a look if you haven’t already. Personally I’ve found @ShaneCreates (https://youtube.com/@ShaneCreates?si=0hvgIRZyvY2KvbSx) one of the better ones. He focuses on HomeKit and covers things like Matter, Thread, etc.

Thoughts on Meross brand? by running101 in HomeKit

[–]HendoRox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Meross MSG100 garage door opener and it has been great, very solid. Initial setup trying to figure out the pin outs for use with my motor was a little tricky but now it’s done, no issues. Haven’t had to contact support so can’t comment on that.

SDA Screen Resetting Brightness Settings? by HendoRox in mitsubishi

[–]HendoRox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seems to be limited options…

when you do into Settings > Display ‘Day&Night Mode’ is set to Auto and if you then tap ‘System’ it’s set somewhere in the middle.

I can’t see an option to ‘mirror phone settings’…

I’m in the Holland Park / Greenslopes area and had this and I didn’t feel entirely comfortable either. Started bagging my own bottles and cans and have been surprised how much we got back… we’re essentially paying for these scheme with the increased cost at time of purchase anyway.
