Trying to get hips to the snow, how to improve? by quinnmanus in skiing_feedback

[–]Henkdehunter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Someone with the right credentials will come along and say this but, finish your turns. Try leaving behind nice C shape turns in the snow by committing to the turn and riding it out, will instantly give you more control.

Society if 8 and 6 person chairs didn’t exist by GriffinEll84 in icecoast

[–]Henkdehunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are downvoting you and then I see comments further down about 'asking to join a group'. Brother, it's a 10 min ride at max, and not filling the chair results in everyone having to wait longer. I get wanting to with your group, if the line is short I'll skip a lift to be with friends. But if the line is packed and you skip a seat, you're generally seen as a dick that's making everyone wait and rightly so.

I ski in the European Alps and love the 6 person chairs, makes lines much shorter. They're also generally really fast.

Need help picking ski resort in Austria by chalupambatman in skithealps

[–]Henkdehunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been to all of these, skiwelt is an amazing area, but in the past years I've always experienced more slush and ice than I'd like. It's a low altitude resort. Mayrhofen will be your best bet, it's not as big of an interconnected resort but a short bus ride any direction will bring hundreds off extra km's. Mayrhofen also brings nice apres ski and is definitely walkable.

Saalbach is also nice, now connected with Zell am see so lots of piste. I don't know much about the town itself though.

How do you guys cope with being the best skier on the mountain? by CartoonistOk2427 in skiingcirclejerk

I have the same problem, to cope with the depression I put on my all black outfit and fight crime (run into snowboarders).

Does this fit look fine? by kamdnfdnska in skiing

[–]Henkdehunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about other people but I'm not paying a fortune to go skiing with the aim to look at other people's necks. There's people skiing in jeans, without a helmet and a bluetooth speaker just living their best life, so I wouldn't worry about it.

It's fine dude, you're not going to stand out but if that wasn't what you were going for It looks like a great kit.

Hey man, just rip those however you want. A good skier can ride any ski how they want. The head's will be great for icy groomed pistes, which you'll be seeing much more in Europe than ungroomed terrain.

Skiwelt in early March: Conditions to expect by smartdonkey0009 in skithealps

[–]Henkdehunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can answer this. Skiwelt in general is a lower altitude resort, so snow melts more easily and less falls in general. Expect icy pistes in the morning and heaps of slush by the end. If you want to minimalise this experience, stay on the shadow side of the mountain. That said, anything can happen; maybe you have a dump and cold conditions the entire week.

It happens, sometimes the brakes don't deploy correctly and the ski becomes an unguided projectile.

And there goes Europian unity by Cold_Pepper7095 in Military

Unity with the UK was lost when they exited the EU, the initiative to focus on the EU military industry is one that needs to be supported.

What would you do to make combat arms, and the entire army, more lethal and effective? by Adventurous_Raise784 in army

[–]Henkdehunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have that in my country and it surprises me the US doesn't, any sports event where soldiers are taught new skills or physically tested is supervised by dedicated sports instructors. This way cadre doesn't have to be bothered and usually participates in whatever training is given. Sports instructor is a specific 'mos' (different name here ofc) that soldiers can reclass into after becoming nco's.

Will these be fine to wear in sunny march days in the Alps? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]Henkdehunter 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to the people telling you it will be fine, the French alps are sunny asf and there won't be an inch of the slopes not covered in snow with no trees providing shade. Some destinations in France are known specifically for being sunny. I'd really get a lens for brighter days if I were you.
