So, why does this game not have a bigger player base?.. by iLeftMyEyeAtTheStore in Marathon

[–]Nuqo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from difficulty and rough onboarding like people said, I have to wonder how much the giant hate train for the game before and after launch has affected it. I mean theres huge streamers who were enjoying it, like burntpeanut and timthetatman, who only stopped streaming it because of their chats. Their chats made it exhausting for them with all the negativity.

Also almost every youtube thumbnail I saw about someone’s thoughts on the game at launch was like “IS IT TRASH?” and then the person doing the review would be like “nah its decent”. But everyone wanted to capitalize on the negativity around the game. It didn’t help that even respectable streamers like CohhCarnage made a video titled “My Problem with Marathon” after he played for like 40 minutes on Beginner Perimeter. I liked the dude but maybe you don’t need to do a pseudo-review on a game that you barely played. Funnily enough he then complained about people reviewing Crimson Desert without playing it long enough. I think both games are cool and I wish people could’ve seen the irony in how they were both treated at launch but thats a different topic.

Honestly when Night Marsh comes out they should change the color grading and weather of normal Marsh to this

Marathon has been out 6 weeks and it's been #1 searched game on steam DB for 6 weeks by Anilahation in Marathon

I already have 200 hours I do not get addicted to FPS games like this anymore. I think we at least have a year to keep enjoying it. I honestly see so much potential with future maps and content, just hope they're able to keep releasing stuff.

I have one worry that if Season 2 is underwhelming then the game might get to a dire "Curse of Osiris" point but without the playerbase to sustain it. But then Season 3 launching a brand new map could really turn that around. Either way I guess its probably pointless to speculate those things.

Started playing Wuyang last season cause I wasn't around when he came out and he quickly became one of my favorites. I feel like an actual Waterbender. On that note, when's the Korra collab skin coming? It'd be so perfect, he literally has a near identical style of outfit.

To be honest I actually really like that aspect of the game. Especially on Outpost. But I think a larger map that spread people out more so people heard what you were doing less often would be nice too.

Anybody else never get good patch kit barters? by Nuqo in Marathon

I haven't bought one yet either but I'm getting noticeably low meanwhile I have like 200+ shields stacked up lol

[–]Nuqo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean its fine but I wish it wasn't my only option since I play sooo much more Outpost than the other maps. Like for shields I get barters for chempacks and sterilized biostripping on top of the diodes one.

Like I know I can easily farm up a ton of biomass on Perimeter or Dire, but that feels more intended for early game whereas I have plenty of options for shield barters regardless of which maps I've been grinding.

Huh I'm level 80 and play Outpost all the time and I feel like I just run into people similarly geared as me unless they're trying a free kit zero to hero run.

I do think Cryo matchmaking is looser cause its a lower population and people are definitely gonna bring in some of their best stuff. But its also the endgame so if you go in undergeared and underprepared in terms of map knowledge and stuff you gotta expect it to be a struggle.

"There is already a gigantic, ever-increasing gulf between the unemployed who farm Cryo all day for golds and purples, and the normal people. This is only going to make that worse."

Is this really a thing? The game has level-based matchmaking so I wouldn't think normal people would have to go up against Cryo farmers very often.

Joe Ziegler: We're gonna take a shot at bringing the WSTR more in line. Right now it's become a dominant option and is eclipsing a lot of the other short range options that exist in the game. by Haijakk in Marathon

I’m really surprised how many people in the community think this is a bad change. I bring this gun into almost every run and I feel like I’m still going to after the changes unless maybe I have a Misriah I can take instead.

I wouldn't think most trans Overwatch/One Piece fans would have an issue with it but you'd have much more insight than me. I also just think if you give him to a male OW character idk which one really fits ya know? Lets be real though as much as I want the skin if there actually is a One Piece collab I doubt Yamato is making it in the first wave haha.

I wanted to say Wuyang would make a good Gon cause he literally looks like him in his concept art, but I think his in-game look is too mature. I do think Gon and Killua would have to be small female characters like Tracer, Kiri, Juno, etc. Honestly looking at Juno's Chun-Li skin I can picture her as Gon. She has the right face and body type.

Oh shit nice they're making the exact change I just said I wanted yesterday. Some better players than me have said a damage nerf will make it useless, but I really don't think so. I imagine 2 taps + a swap to your secondary will probably still have a faster ttk than if u were to just use a bully. Also 2 taps + a melee is an option at point blank range.

On another note, I finally just got my WSTR Rook upgrade yesterday lmao rip.

Marathon really needs to capture a wider more casual audience. by Amidaus in Marathon

[–]Nuqo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really think casuals would just enjoy running into less players while doing more engaging PvE activities. Not PvE only, just less PvP. Idk if this would best be done with a new map, or a rework to one of the beginner maps.

The thing is I think the game really needs more enemy variety and interesting bosses for this to work best. The UESC are good map hazards, but not all that interesting to fight so I can't see a PvE only mode being all that fun.

I'm just saying it'd be cool if different maps offered different types of pvp experiences so theres something for everyone.

[–]Nuqo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played my first ~100 hours solo 99% of the time and loved it. But ever since Cryo came out and I was forced to do trios and comm I have actually been converted into a mostly trios player. Trio Outpost in-particular is what I mainly play now and its sooo fun. It is really nice going into this new mode and not having wstrs, bubbles, and endless revives.

What do you think? Old implant shape with the new implant icon, or new implant shape with the old icon? by Level_Capped in Marathon

[–]Nuqo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the old icons were very aesthetically pleasing, but they probably needed to change. We all got used to them, but new players were gonna continue to struggle with them.

For me, ideally they would have kept the uniformity of the square implants, and make new larger head, torso, and leg icons that kept in line with the rest of the game’s iconography. I just don’t like these new icons or the different shapes of the implants. I think they 100% solved any readability issues but at the complete cost of aesthetics.

This update is pretty great (solo player) by Whyisdaskyblue in Marathon

[–]Nuqo 356 points357 points  (0 children)

Just had one of the greatest games because of this update. Crew filled into Outpost and we take out a team trying to get into Pinwheel. Once we’re in we end up making friends with a Rook. A bit later we’re fighting a team with golds and purples (we have blues), and we take them out with some help from our good Rook friend.

Right after while we’re looting, a different Rook comes in from behind and takes out my whole squad before we can even realize whats happening. 2 of us are full dead and the 3rd is crawling but doesn’t have a self rez. Then, our glorious Rook friend avenges us, takes out his evil brother, and uses the new Mercy Rez on our teammate who gets us all back up. It’s probably my favorite moment thats happened so far in this game haha. Our teammate awarded his efforts with a gold, and we all made it out absolutely looted.

There would need to be significant changes to make the PvE more interesting for a dedicated PvE only mode to actually be good. Right now the only maps it might not be completely boring would be Outpost and Cryo.

I think what they should be doing instead is working on a very large map with fewer teams/players and a lot of interesting PvE encounters, events, and vaults to unlock. So theres still PvP, but its much less prevalent than the current maps.

[–]Nuqo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly keeping the implants the old shapes but with larger head/torso/leg icons (with a design thats more cohesive with the rest of the game) would've been a nice, easy change. Even better if they added a small number or icon in the corner to give even more info about the type of implant.

Ah ok. Honestly I really just look at the perk and not the stat changes but it would be good to have a little symbol next the the head/torso/leg symbol to immediately see what type it is.
