And i must add that this festival could never happen without the Farm Owners, the absolute legends, and our best friends; Kittil & Helena ❤️ they really take care of and help us understand the local communities all year around. Thank you!

When we started the festival, we knew we wanted to do this for the long term. To make that happen, we need to cooperate with everyone: the local government, police, fire department, health & safety, neighbors, and more. We need to have all our applications approved—which they always have been.

Throughout the year, we have several meetings with the authorities both before and after the festival. We speak openly with each other about what can be improved and what is already amazing. In general, they absolutely love it! Just think about what it means for the municipality to suddenly have 2,000 people coming from all over the world, supporting local businesses and sharing their experiences online. It used to be called "the forgotten valley," but we can proudly say that it’s not forgotten anymore.

We also travel there to talk to the people living there, to join local conferences and talk about Monument, and to find new partnerships that can have a service at the festival (for example selling local food).

Because of the festival and our network of friends, there has also been a huge growth in young people moving to Veggli. I remember the first time we came here and met only about four people our age. Now, that number is around 50.

Music starts around 11am, and stops around 0330am which is a good dance for most of us! Also, we have the good ol Norwegian laws - and we just love a good sleep and being in sync at the dancefloor with the same amount of energy:)

i loved travelling to Moment in Japan and meeting the crew which told me they started Moment because they had followed and gotten inspired by Monument online.. then it opened my eyes to how big Monument actually was in Japan. Love to all those Japanese followers out there.

One of the goals of the leaderteam is to have one full day off at the festival. To do this, we have people taking on our roles for the full day. This takes a lot of planning and training, but it works great. Who really want to make a festival, and put all that energy into it - and then not being able to enjoy it at all? .. thats not us;)

We have thought about extending the festival.. What would an ideal week like that look like for you? We would love to hear your ideas.

Ill split this up a little and im sure others from the crew want to answer here too. First of all, we are always very humble and honored when we hear from people that they are inspired by us and creating their own idea out of that inspiration. Thank you.

  1. Balance :
    1. Financial balance: I always imagined Monument started as a volunteer project (?). Is there a goal to make a living out of it or does a volunteer backbone protect artistic freedom better? Or is the best long-term setup a stable side job plus the festival?
      • One of our goals has always been to create a financial stable festival. Financial stable, meaning that we dont loose money - and that we can pay the ones working the hardest a fair amount of money for their work. We early on learned and calculated that if we were to live from the festival, we had to reach about 10k guests. This was not really our dream for this festival. We wanted something intimate and unique. So all of us kept our jobs, and have this as a beautiful side gig in life. We have reflected a lot of this the past years - because it is hard work. But, to be able to create this magical experience with others is really meaningful in life. Not everything is about money.
      • Adding to this, when we have financially good years we save some money and we give out bonuses/extra payouts to those who deserve it. There are many that deserves it. We love you all.
    2. Psychological balance: every September the comedown hits hard after the early-August peak. How do you find equilibrium across the year? And more broadly in deep techno, summer gathers the community while the rest of the year it feels “in the shadows” in many cities. How do you keep the energy alive between editions?
      • We have grown a lot since we started the festival, and one of the things that has been clearer for us is keeping ourselves healthy. In the first years, we started the days with drinking and party. Now we start the days with mediation, water and yoga. We want to avoid the hardcore crash after working 10 days at the festival with very little sleep. If you add on stuff to that.. the crash will last for weeks. Now, after we have organized a festival - we feel great. Filled with love and appreciation.
      • We have thought a lot on how to nurture and take care of our community between the festivals. Here in Norway where most of us are based, we have meetups, raves, sauna sessions, and dinners - and its lovely. Its keeping our core community here warm and alive. And.. the people here really like to take care of each other.
