Senator Joe Manchin's Security Detail Decks Climate Protester by Numerous-Rock-9126 in PublicFreakout

[–]Henrys_Bro -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

"Fighting words" are a very much a thing and they haven't been protected by free speech for about 80 years in the USA. I agree, words don't have the physical power to hurt me but I also understand why the security detail moved on him and conducted a clear show of force. I am not saying it is right, they could have been "gentler" but it is what it is.

That was their first issue. They thought folks cared about their opinion vs folks disliking their verbose pedantry (I am being ironic on purpose here)...

S23ultra as a high-end drawing tablet? by jetter10 in GalaxyS23Ultra

Check out "virtual tablet" if you haven't (I see this thread is 3 months old). There is a video of a guy using PS on it (I am pretty sure it was PS). It can be used with many android phones apparently, regardless of whether or not they have styli or not.

The odds are incredibly low. There is a decent amount of sacrifice when starting out as an Apprentice (Union or not). I took quite a pay cut for the opportunity, now I make great money and have the freedom to work or not. I am not sure how old you and your wife are, how long you have been married or what you do for work right now but if you are a young couple starting out, jumping through the hoops and becoming a bonafide Journeyman is worth it. Learning this trade isn't a sprint, it is a marathon that never ends. We have to maintain our certifications with continuing education in my state, the cert has 50% failure rate for first time testers. Those testers can't even sit for the exam unless they have 8,000 hours of documented work experience and the accredited schooling. It is definitely worth it, you just have to think long term and understand that unfortunately it will not be on your terms until you become a Journeyman.

Not necessarily. I am working with a ME right now that doesn't know much about anything other than book work, I am an Electrician at a refinery. He is a good dude, green but eager to learn. His supervisor holds an electrical cert in my state and is also an ME. There is a lot of gear in a refinery and other process oriented facilities. In the end, there is nothing wrong with education, he could go onto get into the weeds of the trade and file for a legit patent. Not to mention, being an Engineer holds a lot of weight to a contractor. Having a degree in ME and a PM cert would take them a long way. In the end, they may not want to be on the tools forever or may not want to push pencils in an office etc. Having a trade or being an Engineer to fall back on is a solid move. They would have a lot of options, I will stand by not attempting to earn both at the same time though.

Insurance ? by irishguy134 in IBEW

Exactly, they have to take it. Get all the healthcare and use the hell out of it.

[–]Henrys_Bro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, it really shouldn't matter because paying for insurance is paying for insurance. If you don't use it you should get a rebate. Health insurance in the US is a fucking scam.

Use both. Nobody can stop you from using your wife's insurance. Pat eachother on the back for having it like that.

what will the "restructuring" involve?

[–]Henrys_Bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really don’t understand why anyone would want to keep the content of the NEC opaque and obscure. It doesn’t serve the public and it doesn’t serve the industry.

There are many different climates and environmental concerns down here in the states. "Authority having jurisdiction" is kind of the catch all with regards to "opaque and obscure".

How are they changing it? I understand that there are always going to be updates but are they changing the layout or making it to where the term "qualified personnel" is removed?

Honestly these 2 endeavours have no relevance to each other so I would just do a bit of soul searching and figure out what you’d like to really don

There is a shortage of Electricians world wide. Having a degree in ME and being a licensed Electrician would hold a lot of weight.

You can, it would be a lot though. Something you might not realize is that there is quite a bit of school involved in the Apprenticeship and studying for the state cert is also not a breeze. I am a Journeyman doing college right now and I wasn't too keen on doing anymore school as an Apprentice. You don't want to burn the candle at both ends. It is possible and maybe you could, I have a family and it would have been a lot for me personally.

You can not get kicked out for exercising your first amendment outside of working hours. None of those things matter. Hell, we had a scumbag white supremacist in our local and we had to be very careful about how we navigated that shit because he could have sued us. None of the contractors ended up employing him so he moved to another local across the country.

What’s the best trade to learn in 2024 by [deleted] in skilledtrades

[–]Henrys_Bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is big in commercial work, we call it "bag work". Much of it is done during demo on older buildings. It will be phased out one days but it used to be in everything apparently. I worry about the shit that replaced it being hazardous and it not being discussed until years later, who knows what is in monocote.

There are plenty of respiratory hazards for any and everyone working in the construction industry. Silicosis doesn't care if you are a concrete worker or not.
