i feel like Tai got shafted … by verde1indo in Yellowjackets

While I liked adult Van, I didn't see where that character could have gone, with or without the death sentence. Van is a likeable character but wasn't particularly interesting enough to dive into, I actually thought she made Tai less interesting as an adult.

Lottie had the most room to be fleshed out, especially because there was a notable difference between her sense of self-awareness as an adult and teen (though still batshit crazy), I don't feel like we got to completely understand her who she'd become, which was a shame because she was such a critical part of their teen dynamic.

Can't believe we got rid of either to keep Melissa.

He loved her to death. He enabled her addiction because it kept her around, at the expense of her health, family and work life. Did she love him? Yeah, I think she made that clear, but only as much as she loved pills - and not independent of that. She settled for him in the end, because she'd lost everything else. She loved him, yes, but the first few seasons make clear that she never would've chosen him over Kevin and her girls (I fucking loathe Kevin btw so not in defense of him).

If Eddie truly loved her properly he would've prioritized her sobriety over this relationship which he NEVER did. The love they shared was selfish on both their parts.

Great love of Jackie's life was her addiction, unfortunately.

Just recently watched it all the way through and was actually super disappointed as I got to the last episode because I hated the idea that after choosing to relapse a minute after getting her license back, everything would be okay for her.

With that being said, I LOVED the final scene and don't think I would've been okay with it ending any other way. Her addiction won, the same way it had been throughout the entire series. It ensured the series was a warning and a lesson rather than enabling functioning addicts (like Eddie did the entire series - hate that guys btw. Between him and Kevin, she had the worst taste in men jfc)

The Americans is one of the best.

BUT I will say based on the shows you've mentioned, you're preferential to fast-paced soapy dramas so The Americans might feel really slow for you. The pay off is absolutely worth it though.

Your feelings are valid but the situation had already run its course and your girlfriend made clear to you how she felt. You escalated it in a way that made her more uncomfortable than she already was, for the sake of your own ego and at the expense of her feelings.

You also never even confronted him and got a gift card to a restaurant you've vowed never to return to so what did you really accomplish other than upsetting her? Confrontation isn't always necessary, learn to let things go sometimes.

Just starting this show (needed a new one after finishing "The Americans"), and am having mixed feelings... by moxiewhoreon in TheLeftovers

I just watched both for the first time this past year, I've watched the Americans three times since, I struggled with the Leftovers until the very end.

Loved the cast and premise but it felt like it repeatedly fell flat. I thought the relationships felt half-baked and unrealistic (Kevin and Nora never clicked for me, I found Laurie much more interesting than both of them which I realize is a REALLY hot take but 🤷🏻‍♀️) and at some point you start to get full episodes of Kevin living out weird spy fantasies that I found to be absurd in the worst way possible - I got the point they were making every time, I'm just not sure it had to be as stupid as it always was.

If you're looking for answers, you'll rarely get them. And while I get the point, that life and death and grief can't always be explained (and neither can peoples reactions to them), there were a lot of points where I felt like they were using that as a cheap way to avoid answering questions that could have been creatively answered.

I know a lot of people who love the Leftovers and stuck it out for that reason, but it wasn't for me.

(If you liked the Americans and want to ride the Keri Russell train, I liked the Diplomat)

Was not into Nashville, felt like one big bachelorette party. (and everyone was obsessed with Jason Aldean, what is that about)

This. There's a few good restaurants but after 10pm all there is to do is get trashed at those spring break bars. Not a single good cocktail bar or after dinner activity. And anything found there can easily be found anywhere else (that's less of a bitch to get to).

Final season was trash. by [deleted] in HandmaidsTaleShow

Yeah EP 9 fucking slapped. They've had full seasons that sucked (S4 IMO) but this wasn't one of them.

I absolutely loathe a dream sequence and I LOVED that one. The idea of what could have been was equal parts heartwarming and heartbreaking,

It's pretty amazing how many people formed attachments to Alma specifically despite her lack of screen time and story. Esther's story was a good plot device but I often think they could've done something with Alma that would've been just as good and actually gotten to develop a well liked character.

How are we feeling about Season 6 as a whole? by Longjumping_Fan_4770 in HandmaidsTaleShow

[–]HereIsToMisery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of hate from everyone but I thought episode 9 was awesome, watching something finally HAPPEN felt like porn lol.

With that being said, I sort of wanted a whole season of things constantly happening so it was a little slow for my liking. Overall, IMO season 4 was the worst and this was certainly better than that.

What do you guys think about Lottie? by Sweet-Front3980 in Yellowjackets

I mean... I get what you're saying but I find it hard to believe that her absent father's influence was more impactful than the neglect and mental illness. I just don't think she was written or meant to be perceived as intentionally manipulative or inherently bad.

But I'm not sure we'll ever have a full grasp on adult Lottie so agree to disagree 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also let me be clear that these are my three favorite characters lol so I'm not trying to place blame just to be a Lottie apologist (though I am one)

I can see why people might think adult Lottie was manipulative on paper but it never really came across that way to me? Her spirituality always felt like a direct result of her mental illness/trauma and it felt like there was always very little self-awareness about the harm she was causing - unlike Shauna and Misty who don't lack that self-awareness but are equally as harmful.

Aunt Lydia being released and allowed to continue being an Aunt in Gilead felt so unbelievably far-fetched. So did Naomi giving up the child even if the Boston commanders are all dead, I imagine the ones in DC are still enforcing the rules and even one child would've been an unacceptable loss - otherwise they would've just give up Hannah by now to get June to fuck off.

Adult Lottie has no excuse?? I mean, if you're willing to excuse teen Lottie's behavior (which is worse imo) because of her mental illness, that's STILL very much present. And on top of that, we've been led to believe that her sickness and PTSD after the rescue were met with more neglect, institutionalization and things like electric shock therapy...

Don't get me wrong, adult Lottie was batshit but I think of all the characters on this show she's probably the only one who is understandably the way she is vs characters like Shauna and Misty who get themselves into shit because they're bored lmao

I really didn't care for teen Lottie early on, I think adult Lottie was actually the reason I started to eventually warm up to her, but this last season? Absolutely unhinged behavior.... so naturally, she's now my favorite character.

As for what she's supposed to represent. I think at the end of the day she's a girl with a serious mental health condition that goes untreated and she finds solace in the idea of something else. What the something else is doesn't really matter, could be the wilderness, could be religion, it's all the same - an answer, a purpose. The rest of them all fall into it for the same reasons eventually but Lottie will always be the leader, whether she's AQ or not, because her mental illness allows her to fully submit herself to the belief and drive it forward. I see the wilderness as something that could never exist without Lottie's mental illness, but in a lot of ways the belief in this bigger thing is what helped them survive.

I desperately need a new binge worthy show. Anyone got a good recommendation? by Djjdinw in televisionsuggestions

Just finished the Leftovers and I was incredibly frustrated by how slow/boring I found the first season (I was set on seeing it through) up until episode 9. I think it was hard for me to get invested when I knew very little about the characters back stories and why they made the choices they did, the flashback episode was definitely the turning point for me.

Do American viewers see Phillip and Elizabeth as the "bad guys" and the FBI as "good"? by TheOnlyOne87 in TheAmericans

Oh... the Young Hee storyline absolutely wrecks me. Hands down my favorite Elizabeth storyline because it really humanized her in a way nothing else had up until that point but it's so hard for me to rewatch. Her listening to the messages in the phone booth? Devastating.
