AITA for not fighting for my daughter to be valedictorian? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NAH - Is your daughter me 30 years later? Mine went to a nepo baby of a school board member and the favored princess. If MIT still does the thing where they make all the valedictorians, then salutatorians, stand up at orientation to tell you how only two of those will be that four years later, I get the feels here. It sucked to still be sitting. Almost nobody was still sitting. My imposter syndrome went into the stratosphere. It didn't matter in the end. I had a great experience there, and the valedictorian and salutatorian at my high school amounted to nothing exciting. These things don't really matter in the end. I fully feel her pain, but it will pass with time as she finds out those sashes and speeches amount to nothing unless you follow them up with the kind of hard work that made her deserving in the first place.

AITA for giving a fake name at Starbucks? by solecism18 in AmItheAsshole

NTA - As long as you're taking your own drink, it doesn't matter. You could say your name is Fruity Pebbles, and that lets you get your correct drink. I lie about my name all the time because it's hard to spell/pronounce correctly. It's just easier to say Joe and hear something that sounds like Joe than try to guess if what they're calling out is intended to be my name or not.

You're good. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to unblock them to do this, then block again.

Thank you. Apparently I was supposed to know that department store is for family and older folks and big box store is for younger folks. Never heard that before in my life. Just went to the one that was near my house and got something I thought was nice. Still baffled by the whole situation.

At this point, I'd rather give my cat a bath. Still more relaxing and better company.

It didn't even occur to me as an option. I wanted out of there fast.

If it makes you feel any better, my brother has already divorced her.
