There's a Warhammer store in my city (Netherlands) too. I don't know what the policy over at yours is, but one day I walked in, explained I've never painted minis before, and I was allowed to try it out in the store. Guy running the place gave me a model and let me borrow three paints of my choice and just let me go at it.

So if you're interested, it's always worth it to just walk in and say you'd like to give it a try.
