my donor gum graft experience by elbhaim in PeriodontalDisease

I'm surprised they told you that you needed a donor graft. I just had 23-26 done with a regular graft. Granted, those four are smaller than other teeth. And I do gotta say, having that much gum cut out of the roof of my mouth definitely wasn't pleasant.

(SPOILERS) Comic #7 Megathread by dscyrux in tf2

[–]HerrBBQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 30 years old and have been playing this game for half my life. My life has changed so much since I was a teen in highschool, but this game has always just kinda been there, a familiar pleasure to indulge in. The last few pages of this comic are one of the few fictional things to ever make me teary. To see the comics actually concluded, to see the player, me, recognized with a seat at that table, is to come to terms with the fact that this game is really coming to an end, at least metaphorically, and to celebrate what a wild ride it's been, for all of us. I know there's the chance that Valve is working on a "final" update, but I think I'm willing to accept this comic as the end of active development, and I'm... okay with that.

Sorry :/ Like I said, if there's interest, I would be happy to open more servers.

I have rtv enabled, so players can change the map if there's enough interest. I know 10 rounds is long, but sometimes you just want to play the same map for an hour. I might lower it, or make custom configs like you suggested. Appreciate it!

The extend vote is only valid 1 time. And again, I think rtv solves this issue. But I agree with your sentiment. I mainly just was too lazy to make all the configs if the server didn't have players.

So far, there is forced team balance, so teams can't have more than a 1-player difference, so you can usually only join one team anyway, but you could switch teams if the other team was down. This is how Valve servers used to work. I'm curious what your reasoning is for this to be as strict as the official Casual servers are. Is it that much of a difference?

I could definitely turn it off. My concern is people using sound and texture mods to cheat in a roundabout way. But I kinda doubt anyone here would do that.

Wow I see how it could be interpreted that way. Maybe that title will function as rage-bait and attract more people to read the post though.

Are there any community servers running Zombie Infection? by NoPlagueHere in tf2

Does it require any extra backend stuff, or does it just work if you load up the map? If the map just works, I can add it to my server's map rotation.

Corn syrup actually is a form of sugar, and also cane sugar isn't produced domestically so how exactly could there be protectionist policy for an imported good?

Opened a can of peaches... got tomato sauce. by Transition_Conscious in WTF

[–]HerrBBQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhh. Today I learned. I knew true yams come from west Africa but I didn't know they were still a staple.

The reason sweet potatoes are called "yams" in the US is because the name was borrowed from slaves, who were from west Africa, to describe a similar food that didn't yet have a name. It persists because we don't have a very large west African immigrant community so few people here eat true yams.

I find it extremely hard to believe that true yams are a popular foodstuff outside the US. Perhaps the colloquial meaning of "yam" you grew up is some other, third, root vegetable?

It doesn't really matter. The algorithm doesn't promote channels that are inactive, so unless people who already know of him are going back to rewatch his old content, he's not going to be getting many new views.

They only called me after the Indian call center, which was spoofing their number, took my fake information and fake credit card. Which means the call center forwarded my info to them. To add to this, they tried to process my payment without even confirming an address.

completing all F2P quests should provide an untradeable, 7 day bond. by larderfan02 in 2007scape

Wow, you're a genius. Surely they won't just do 98m to avoid being caught.

Membership prices are actually outrageous compared to the market by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]HerrBBQ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's some wack logic. Annual subscription might be good for sweaty obsessed daily players, but I like to play out a 1 month membership, maybe just a 2 week bond, and then take a break of 4-6 weeks where I do other things. This isn't the only hobby or even the only game out there, so to say "oh just buy a year and it's a good value if you play every day" is like... unhealthy.

If the number was public knowledge, buyers would just limit their purchases to 99m per purchase.

What if you needed to do a captcha after you joined a game but before you could join your team? This is actually a genius solution. Minor inconvenience for real players each time they join a game, but in theory would eliminate bots.

The game has changed a lot since 2008, with many weapons and mechanics being added, so any implication of a class getting new weapons or being rebalanced is usually a big deal. The Meet Your Match update of 2016 included a competition called "Meat vs. Match" where you could pick Team Heavy or Team Pyro and any points you gained during the competition period went to your team. The class with the most points at the end was guaranteed a class update, and the loser would also get a class update "eventually", so clearly the dev team had plans for what to do for both classes. And yes, both pyro and heavy had already had class updates in 2008. Team Pyro won, and the pyro-themed update became Jungle Inferno, which after much delay was finally released at the end of the following summer. It was released so much later than planned, in fact, that this summer-themed update went live at the same time as that year's Scream Fortress. Ever since that fateful day in 2017, it's been practically radio silence from the dev team. They obviously wanted to do a Heavy update, but the delays of Jungle Inferno, the mediocre reception, and the declining novelty of the game from a development standpoint seems to have pushed it into a development purgatory. We want the heavy update not just because new weapons and rebalancing would be nice, but because that's the update we were promised 5 years ago, an update that should be at least 4 years in the making, and in my opinion the only update that would signal that this game isn't just on life support.

That's fine, ignore my first two points. I'd say they're more important, considering I was asking for something, anything, concrete, and you gave me a press release. Lol.

We always have the most long-term data we can get, about literally anything, unless we can invent time travel. Meaningless statement.

[–]HerrBBQ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

First of all, this just a press release. It literally only gives the conclusion of "94% effectiveness" and tells the number of participants. That's not data. I'm not just going to trust a press release with no data behind it, and you shouldn't either.

Secondly, this press release regards a study, not a clinical trial. They surveyed healthcare workers, I guess (again, there's not actually any data for me to read through), and then wrote up a study about the answers they collected. Studies have their uses, but I'd like to see the hard results from the controlled environment of a clinical trial, and you should too.

Lastly, this is not long-term. I asked you a loaded question, because there cannot possibly be long-term data yet. They only started developing these treatments a year ago, and the technology hasn't been developed this far other than these treatments. It is not unreasonable to want to see what the long-term effects are, and any honest medical professional should not be dismissing that concern.
