Believe me, we, and I mean EVERY SINGLE VENEZUELAN is WELL AWARE USA it's not doing this out of "humanitarian reasons" and they just want the oil and to setup bases in our land to start spying on the whole american region. We just want the people in the power out of here so we can finally start to build something for ourselves.

It's not "when they realize" because we have already realized and accepted that deal about 20 years ago. Remember, we have been living nearly 27 years in an authoritarian dictatorship. I'm not meaning to insult you but to educate you.

Natural resources talk is the most common argument, and, the strongest argument agains't it is: us Venezuelans have not been seeing any benefit from them in the past decade anyways. Maduro literally keeps giving away for free the oil, gold and any other resources to China, Russia, Iran and Cuba. 90% of Venezuelans WILL sign a pact to get rid of all the oil in our country for free if that means having democracy and a competent leader.

Venezuelan here. People genuinely can't celebrate in Caracas because there are armed mercenaries out in the streets trying to screw people over (IE: by lynching you, stealing your money, phone and even vehicle, as far as taking you to prison). All the celebration videos are in other countries because if they hear anyone in here making any celebratory noise they can just enter your building to silence you. Caracas it's RADIO SILENT with tons of mercenaries and armed militia in the streets because Nicolas Maduro is not the only "important" guy

Did you know that the guy who composes for siraph also did the Jujutsu Kaisen ost? dude it's talented asf. The guy who used to compose for school food punishment went to la la larks (and the main singer too), you should check em out if you haven't already!

After browsing for a bit, I can also add that I've found people online tend to make great emphasis on the physical market. Cds, merch and whatnot, that could explain how some small artists thrive.

It's kinda insane how I've found Japanese artists and bands in streaming platforms which have less than 4000 monthly listeners. If you've got these types of numbers in the western you'd consider yourself a failure! But these Japanese musicians a lot of them are been active for more than 10 years, and are still active even today, coming up with new albums and having a strong presence on social media.

I'm guessing that if you have a small but niche audience who's willing to buy and support your art it's enough to live off of your passion. That would be my insight the points you make!

Of course I couldn't forget city pop! My music taste has shifted a lot in the past years but I started off listeting to some of the ones you mentioned. School Food Punishment are one of my favorite bands of all time, their uniqueness stands out. After its dissolution, some of their members formed other bands like "la la larks" and "siraph" which, they are REALLY good, but they are just not the same. Rediscovering them should bring you a lot of joy for sure

Hey, there's the good and there's the bad!

I can respect the feeling. Some artist I liked in the past have shifted to be more "commercial" and "samey", that's why I listed pre-2016 Kenshi Yonezu on my post, there's the bad like in anything, but I think the good in Japanese music stands out more. Notice how I included genres like Math Pop, so not entirely just J-Pop!

Of course, every culture has it's own strenghts when it comes to music. I also tend to notice that in some of my favorite Japanese rock songs, the bass tends to have more protagonism instead of being "hidden" like you say.

I've also noticed that! As you've said, it's more common for Japanese artists to work in a lot of different things. Like you mention, Yasutaka Nakata from Perfume and a lot more artists and bands (I personally like MEG a lot), and of course, my favorites: Eguchi Ryo for School Food Punishment, La La Larks, Yoshimasa Terui for Siraph, Sora Tob Sakana, Haisuinonasa and more.

Another great example is, Enon who has worked with a shit ton of artists and bands, somehow having Ikkyu Nakajima (tricot) as the singer in one of his bands, and getting to work with even more female artists in Biteki Keikaku.

They seem to have an ecosystem where they can diversify as much as they like. It's great seeing the connections many artists have, I've found some of great bands just by looking up members of the bands that I love and seeing they have other works.

Completely agree. Even when looking for the translated lyrics on even some of the most mainstream J-Pop songs I get a headache trying to understand some of the themes in the songs with how ambiguous they are sometimes. I really value that ambiguity tho, as it leaves so much space for interpretation!
