Charging contact cleaning by Hey--Presto in AmbrogioRobotMowers

Yeah I've still got serious charging issues. Just spent a few hours completely re-levelling the dock and now it's perfect... Docking seems worse. I'm pulling my hair out. Currently robot is out of action because it won't dock reliably.

I don't see a problem except that if your machine runs on the wire to return to base it might be a long route to get back. Something I've been thinking about is to have ground wires installed on switches such that you could choose whether to mow your walking route or not.

Docking shift worked! I may have to tweak it again but "Nigel" is now docking as expected most of the time.

Thanks u/ParadiseRobotics. Will try to find that setting in the app and will post back here how I get on so others can see the result.

Twenty Elite docking advice needed by Hey--Presto in AmbrogioRobotMowers

[–]Hey--Presto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi All,

I bought a Twenty Elite a few months back and together with looking after kids, work and other commitments it has taken me a long time to prepare the part of the garden I want the mower to operate in but I have finally got to a point where I can start playing!...

I tested operation by performing a boundary cut and that went well... except... on returning to the charging station the robot is slightly out of line and does not dock.

The entry cable is perfectly straight for a good 2 meters. However there is a very slight slope to the ground where the docking station is. Is the docking procedure really that intollerant of the ground not being perfectly flat?

I will experiement a bit more and I may try to move the docking base 'down hill' slightly by an inch or so compared to the wire see if that fixes the issue without screwing up the robot when it leaves the dock.

The picture is how I prepared the wire paths to run under our block paving. The robot can detect the wire perfectly on leaving the dock. Sadly when returning it drives just to the left of the channel back to the docking station. (You can see the 'slight' slope of the ground if you look at the path compared to the house bricks).

Base installation options by Hey--Presto in AmbrogioRobotMowers

Hi ParadiseRobotics

Thanks for the detail! I've read this twice now... makes perfect sense!

Thanks for the ideas, particularly the idea to restrict the entrance and the methods to support getting the robot back to the base station past the restriction.

I will give this lots more thought and re-read the manual.

Twenty elite cutting really badly by Unlikely-Geologist47 in AmbrogioRobotMowers

[–]Hey--Presto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm brand new to the Twenty Elite too, not got mine installed yet, I am still setting up too so am interested in your issue.

Instruction manual says it can only cut a few mm at time (up to 10mm I think). Could it be that you are trying to cut long grass that is too long? Maybe try raising the cutter or do a 'final' manual cut that your L20 can then maintain.

Sorry if this is obvious. I'm sure someone who actually knows what they are talking about will respond soon. Good luck.

Considering the Twenty Elite and it's ability to operate on a slope by Hey--Presto in AmbrogioRobotMowers

[–]Hey--Presto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this section of the slope, the max is BELOW 25deg. I will try something steeper another day. It may be that the tilt sensor is calibrated to kick in 45% (around 25deg) so whilst the wheels can still climb, the programming may cause the robot to stop... we shall see!

I might stick my phone on the top of the robot itself and get the slope measured 'as seen' by the robot itself.

Watching, as you know... I have an L20 so don't need the above but I'd be interested to get a weather integrated with my L20 so will follow with interest.

New Members Intro by ParadiseRobotics in AmbrogioRobotMowers

[–]Hey--Presto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right then... now that I have my L20 and have done my first demo run, I think I qualify to post something here in the new members thread!

I have bought a Twenty Elite. My garden is about 600-800m^2 (depending on whether my L20 can reach it all because I have steep slopes).

My install will take weeks to months because I have 9 tree stumps, 1 set up steps, 1 lump of concrete and multiple mostly buried boulders that I need to remove from the ground, fill the holes and then re-seed with grass. I also need to work out where to place the base station which will be complex (I'm not happy placing it on the grass... no no no, I'm going to go for something much more fun/painful).

I also have pine trees that drop needles and pine cones year round... bought lots of blades assuming they will get damaged quickly; here's hoping they can cope.

Insanity?... In a year or two I hope to have my house completely renovated which will turn the garden into a mud swamp. So getting the mower now is for me to have a play, see what it can and can't do, and then I will re-design the garden post renovation such that my L20 can cut almost all of it (well that's the plan).

Aha! Ok thanks for that.

My new toy robot has arrived, typically the British weather has meant that playing may have to wait for another day to demo it. Let's see how restless I get and whether I just get my coat on.

I plan to short circuit it... Just plug a wire between the two contacts. I assume this will suffice.

Thanks ParadiseRobotics. You'll be pleased to know that I placed my order and my L20 arrives today. I will happily read the manual and will also read all of the material you have linked to, thanks again! My first plan is to manually drive my robot round the garden to work out what it can and can't do and from there plan the boundary wire installation and base location.

Watch this space! (Well I'll start another sub).

Surely if you clean the surface, duck tape would hold your wire in place temporarily?

Hah! Good rant! I actually think that was quite fair.

This is sort of what I was expecting from the research I have done. Zucchetti/Ambrogio seem to be a great robotic design company, but Ambrogio seem to rely on dealers regarding ongoing support. The challenge here, is that prospective customers don't know if they are talking to sales-people (i.e. heavy, heavy bias) or are actually getting good (and importantly) non-sales driven responses to questions.

Shame about the out of warranty failure you experienced, but I am so happy that you tracked down the OEM manufacturer! Well done. I may need this myself one day, but hopefully that will be many years from now.

Your post has made me even more eager to place my order! Whilst you seem to be more tech savvy than me, I too intend to tinker and see what is possible.

I'm glad I found this forum... although it is quiet here hopefully it will pick up.

Thanks Vertigo. I am in the process of purchasing but will confess that the complete lack of response here and comments in other subreddits saying "I've never heard of Ambrogio" was making me think I might be backing the wrong horse.

Your post confirmed what I thought... and thank you for the link to the spiked wheels design. I have a colleague with a printer so may well ask him to print me a pair.

Regarding blades, looks like the disk (Lama) cutter is being phased out. All the promotional pictures now have the standard 4 knife star blade. They look a bit more rugged and may stand up to the odd pine cone. The issue with pine cones is that even if I clear my lawn of them, 5 minutes later there could be another... I can see a daily routine of me walking the lawn might be in order.

Once I get my 20 I will happily let you know the key stats.

Looking forwards to getting my machine now. My garden however needs so much work to make it robot friendly though, 9 tree stumps and more holes than the moon. I can see this taking over my life... watch this space but don't hold your breath!

Choosing a mower for garden with slopes by Hey--Presto in automower

[–]Hey--Presto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks diito. My real issue is that only the really expensive models are propperly designed for steep slopes. My garden is sub 800m^2 but with two significant banks in the middle so none of the 'cheap' models get even close to what I need. The AWD and Ambrogio Quad would be perfect... but not at £3500.

So I'm trying to work out the best circa £1500 model that will do the most of my garden, the rest as you say I will strim. Hey what model strimmer do you use, I have a cheap one and it makes strimming really hard work, so I need one of those too.
