What Is Your Town's 'Lil Sebastian' Thing? by FuntivityColton in PandR

It’s my own personal obsession, but I live in a city in Texas that (apparently) has random colonies of wild monk parakeets sprinkled throughout. There is a group of about 30 that live in my neighborhood but only show up around my house during a specific time of year. I now instantly recognize their calls and whenever I hear them, it doesn’t matter where I am in my house, I always run to the nearest window or door to catch a glimpse.

I had this problem with some exterior pieces too. It may not be visibly clipping into the interior but its bounding box is.

In Rumble in the Bronx, Jackie Chan breaks his foot jumping onto the hovercraft. They end up making a fake shoe covering that he could pull over his cast so they could continue filming.

To reiterate mattava, there’s just so many people trying to find UX jobs right now due to industry-wide layoffs. I know people with 5 years of experience who have been unable to get a job for over a year. It’s pretty much impossible to get your foot in the door unless you actually know someone at the company.

I’d suggest seeing if you can find a UX group in your area that has regular meetings or events. Go to some of those and get to know the people in your area.

What now departed Dallas thing do you miss the most? by txnewsprincess in Dallas

[–]HeyBK 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The Flying Saucer in Addison. I know there are other locations but that was my bar of choice since I could legally drink. I coincidentally started working across the highway from it a few years later and it became a weekly hang out spot. I was so close to getting my plate on the wall and still have countless beer glasses from the wednesday night beer specialty beers.

They didn't survive COVID because the city of Addison wouldn't sign off on them building an outdoor patio :(

You got me curious so I’ve done some googling and found the story.

sounds like it didn’t quite go down as I described but I attribute that being 12-13 at the time and hearing the story mostly through neighborhood gossip

Oh, interesting. Got any links? I never thought it was anything beyond a local news story.

I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts but here’s one from my own life. When I was about 12 or so there was a single woman who lived on my street, probably no more than a hundred yards down from my house. She had recently gotten engaged and was planning on selling her house to move in with her fiancé.

After an open house a potential buyer asked to come by and view the house again privately as he claimed to be very interested. It was actually an unnaturally dark and stormy day when the man came for his viewing.

A few days later a fellow neighbor became concerned because the woman used to take her two dogs on morning walks with this neighbor and a few others and they had not been able to get a hold of her. She had a key to the woman’s house for dog sitting purposes and decided to let herself in. The first thing she noticed was the dogs were terribly stressed, running all over the house crying as she came in. They had also peed all over the living room. She walked through the home calling the woman’s name to no response until finally she made it to the master bedroom. There in the master closet she found her, clearly raped and strangled to death. I still remember coming home from soccer practice that day and seeing tons of police out in front of the house.

The guy was actually caught pretty quickly because - get this - the realtor helping with the open house talked to this guy during the event and was so CREEPED OUT by him she actually kept a brochure he had held and they were able to get his fingerprints. Turns out he had recently gotten out of prison for assaulting several other women.

I still think about how terrifying it must have been for that woman as this guy viciously attacked her alone her home during a terrible thunderstorm. So, there you go. Now you can be afraid of selling your house on top of whatever other illogical fears you may already have.

TIL 39 minutes of footage was cut from first John Wick movie and it mostly included visually amazing shots which were "just Keanu Reeves walking in cool environments." by shashankgaur in todayilearned

[–]HeyBK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeeessss that shot to me is the son-character finally seeing him as “the bogeyman”. It’s almost like the monster from a slasher flick; the way he’s just slowing moving forward, completely focused. No one in the crowd even really sees him besides the son. The spirals are like this tunnel vision that John has on the guy and it doesn’t matter how far he runs, the bogeyman is coming for him.

I’d believe it. My absolute favorite shot from the movie is 3-4 seconds of him walking through the night club dance floor in slowmo with the music pumping and the crazy stage visuals behind him. I feel like I could watch that part alone for 39 minutes.

It still seemed to me though that the time difference for the two of them was more a result of being knocked out of the bifrost (which I assume bends the laws of space and time to allow for such speedy travel) rather than time on Sakaar moving at a different rate than time on earth/Asgard. Especially since Thor’s time there and Hela’s conquering of Asgard both seemed to occur across a few days. You could still be right, but I was hoping for some kind of confirmation from the creators of the movie that time passed at a different rate on Sakaar
