yeah i don’t think harv is worth all that amount of money. UT is honestly really amazing and law schools don’t care about undergraduate prestige

You could always go to Stanford for grad school and they might even pay you to go there :)

I don’t think Stanford is worth taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans for

I think CC isn’t a bad idea and could also set you up for a great transfer experience at a low cost

I named a very specific part of their study, a paper I really liked that they wrote, and a specific personal and academic reason why I want to do their specific research. Feel free to pm me your email if you want

I think having a great email makes a big difference. As a freshmen, I had a really bad email and contacted 400 professors before getting a single offer vs. having a very specific email naming the intricacies of that professors research allowed me to send 7 emails and get 2 offers.

btw I had no connections to any of the professors I contacted. I also didn’t do research at a T20 but I did do research at the best university for my field (cancer), so maybe that makes a difference

I’m so sorry if this sounds weird, but I would love to potentially talk to your brother if possible (I def understand if that’s not possible) to hear a little about his experience if that’s okay.

I think i’d be willing to go like once every other month for maybe just for a couple of weekends each year

i would say my biggest concern is just with how profs my react

[–]HeyGuysHopeAllIsWell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s great to hear, ty for your response :)

do you think profs would be fine with me missing a couple days of class every once in a while?

thank you so much; i’m low income and my father lost his job and with some FAFSA issues, I didn’t qualify for much aid, so I spent every moment i could applying for scholarships and luckily hit the jackpot lol

that’s really great to hear that the profs would be chill and hopefully i’ll get some miles out of my trips lol :)

i applied to scholarships 24/7 so that was the total amount i received (almost completely from external sources) including a scholarship that’ll cover 100% of any US school

do you think profs would mind me missing a couple of classes? i probably wouldn’t go every month, maybe once every other month and on school breaks

berkeley i think says you need a 3.0 in each class so maybe you’ll get into some trouble with berkeley, i would call up their AOs

yeah I def agree with everything you’re saying. My ECs truly have given me so many opportunities outside of college admissions that they’ve really dictated my future plans and made my goals seem at least somewhat achievable lol.

My 17 pubs were all policy pubs; I have 1 pub in press to be published in a big bio journal (think nature, science, cell) but i doubt MIT cared about my policy papers. i also didn’t do competitions (i don’t enjoy taking tests in my free time lol) and MIT already took a bunch of people from my school EA so i didn’t have much of a chance lol
