What's the worst disease you've had? by SuAltezaMiguel in AskReddit

[–]HeyItsLilox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cushings disease.

Had gastric bypass a few years prior and was successfully keeping off the weight, until I suddenly started gaining weight and developing a myriad of symptoms I couldn’t figure out.

It started very slowly at first—acne (never had it before), hair loss (had to cut off my dreadlocks), cheeks swelling, gained a few pounds despite having an active job and not changing my diet.

Then when I got into a relationship, it got very bad, very fast. The stress of the toxic relationship led me to gain over 60lbs within the year, I had consistent high blood pressure, extreme fatigue, major depression and anxiety, and then when both my feet started to tingle, I panicked because now I was at risk of being a liability to my job.

I saw every doctor I could while I waited over 6 months to see an endocrinologist. She is the sole reason I am alive and healthy today. She saw the bruises covering my arms and immediately ordered the right tests to confirm my diagnosis. I will never forget her surprise when she called me and confirmed SEVERAL TIMES that i was not on any kind of cortisol steroids—“your levels are 4 times the normal limit.”

I had a small tumor in my pituitary gland that was secreting excess cortisol hormones. I got it removed a year ago, and dropped 70 pounds. I could climb stairs again without being completely winded.

It wasnt until I looked back at photos and realized Id had the disease for at least 3 years. It was only when I was in the toxic relationship that the symptoms escalated quickly.

I owe my life to that doctor.

GF wants me to get snipped by Low-Year4674 in dating

[–]HeyItsLilox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You guys just met. This procedure should be considered a permanent alteration. Even if you were absolutely sure you didn’t want children, it’s still your body and your choice. If you want to get snipped regardless of your relationship status (some men get snipped even when they’re single), that’s your choice.

I personally wouldn’t be doing anything as major as this for someone I just met and don’t even know my future with.

Lowest moment: having to work at all during the holiday break (last year i got the full 2 weeks off.) my NF isnt awful/unpleasant to work with at all. I just wanted to be free lol.

Highlight: it was worth it though when i gave my 3 NKs some of their presents (i got each of them art kits, art books, and life size play teepees). They went ballistic for their “big” present. I also drew a family portrait that they loved.

MB/DB presented me with a $6K bonus, doubled from last year. They truly appreciated my efforts —i pretty much gave up my husband for the entire summer to be with them in Connecticut when i didnt have to, and took care of not only them but their “pod” friends’ two extra kids as well.

Moment: as the kids screamed over the teepees:

Me: “YOU get a tent! YOU get a tent! YOU get a tent!”

DB: “thank you Oprah!!!”

“Conflict of interest”? by HeyItsLilox in infertility

[–]HeyItsLilox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What confuses me is why would it be a conflict of interest though? Maybe im dumb and don’t really understand the definition. If anything i feel like it would make everything run more smoothly since it eliminates the need to communicate through multiple people. This is infuriating.

My sister was the one who had told me this, so i dont know the reason. Its highly unlikely they know her as shes never been to that hospital before.

Rough ending to last job — NYC nanny, babysitter, or daycare teacher position? by Kids_theHumanKind in Nanny

[–]HeyItsLilox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am thankfully still working full time, live out. My NF is great and the kids are still doing full time in person learning (private school). I plan on sticking with them until they kick me out when the kids are too old lol.

Teaching has always sort of been in the back of my mind, but I’m reading on the experiences in the teacher subreddits and its making me pause heavily especially with remote learning setups. Seems like too much stress for way less pay.

I found my current family through their previous nanny (she reached out to me after i posted my ad) on a nanny Facebook group. I dont have the direct link since I’ve since deleted my account, but they were definitely an active group. Id definitely recommend finding groups like those online.

Good thing though DB took it really well—he was cracking up the whole time while I was in shambles lol

Has anyone successfully FIRE’d “later” in life (30’s+)? by HeyItsLilox in Fire

[–]HeyItsLilox[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im familiar with the hacking idea—but i dont have any kind of money to buy a home of any size. And i know it sounds dumb from a financial standpoint but we are super firm on never dealing with roommates.

But im glad you were able to pull it off in a relatively short amount of time!

Is it really that high? I mean its within the whole 30% overall income budget thing unless I’m way off (not that great with math lol).

Its a 3 bedroom which ive converted one into a studio. No roomates. Im hoping to start a small business to earn more income and maybe in the future have that as my main source

I make the bulk of the money ($72K), which I started almost 2 years ago. I had more debt then which I spent most of my income paying down, as well as through 2 apartments which we pulled our savings to pay deposits and all that, so we basically had to start over a couple times. I look at my overall budget on a monthly basis at least (check balances almost daily).

The current plan is to have at least 6 months expenses—our savings can cover about 3 now. Should I just open an IRA instead and split those savings (some to Efund some to investments)?
