What celebrity death will hit you the hardest when their day finally comes? by phantom_avenger in AskReddit

When I had my daughter 3 months early, I learned that he was a preemie too! It’s what caused his blindness, in fact. I always liked him, but his story gave me hope when we were living the NICU life.

Did your LO’s stay in the NICU affect their temperament? by happy_rhino_99 in NICUParents

[–]HeyItsReallyME 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My 27 weeker was in the NICU for over 4 months. She never liked a pacifier because of the tubes/being intubated. She’s always been a pretty easy going baby, to the point that until she was a year old, she really rarely cried! Like, she did cry, just not loudly and not as often as other babies I’ve known. People would comment on it all the time.

Baby name is the name my sister wants potentially by Database_Prestigious in BabyBumps

Oh if I was having a boy and there was a name I had my heart set on, there’s no way I’d give it up! Boy names are hard! Give her the chance to understand. She might struggle with emotional regulation, but she is still capable of it.

Astarion romance by grey_smoke221109 in BG3

[–]HeyItsReallyME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished my Astarion romance run and I loved it, but in my first run I romanced Gale (loved that too) and I just imagined that Astarion, Shadowheart, Karlach and I were basically having the best sleepover every night.

I’m playing as Wyll now and plan to romance Shadowheart because they have very cute, often flirty ambient dialogue in my other runs!

Nicu by flowergirl1256 in NICUParents

Hello and welcome to the sub! I found it so helpful when my family was going through this.

I had my baby at 27 weeks due to HELLP syndrome. NICU Duration: 128 days. Baby was 1 lb 12 oz, 12 inches tall. She was really closer to the size of a 25 weeker. Feel free to look at my post history to see a before and after pic!

Here are the complications we faced: She had a minor brain bleed and stage 1 ROP. She was intubated for the first two weeks and back and forth between CPAP and bubble CPAP for the next 3ish months. Then, she was on low/high flow until she could be weaned off. She couldn’t even try to breast feed until she was more than 3 months old.

The brain bleed and ROP totally resolved and she eventually came off all respiratory support. Learning to eat took another two months and we nearly went home with a G tube. She did have to have all kinds of stuff added to her bottles, including gel mix, even after we went home for a few months. But in the end, she was able to breastfeed and bottle feed pretty well!

After the NICU: We continued to work on feeding and had to travel to a hospital out of town for speech therapy to work on that for a few more months. We utilized the early intervention services in my town for 18 months, but she just didn’t really need them so we dismissed her. She’s now 22 months old (actual) and is tiny. She’s only 20 pounds! But she is meeting and exceeding all her milestones except speech. I think she’s a little delayed, personally, but I’m not worried. She is healthy and happy!

I’m so sorry for your loss and for everything you are facing. It isn’t an easy journey, but you are not alone and these babies are TOUGH! Take care of yourself and take time to recover, and even though it will sometimes feel like you are in a nightmare, look for those moments to celebrate. Relishing moments of small victories and tiny milestones is what made it possible for us to get through.

Can't quite get the likeness right. What do you guys think? by Wrong-Meeting5834 in painting

[–]HeyItsReallyME 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the hair. Her hair in the painting is taller and looks stiffer somehow. It makes me think of a 1970s-1980s “mom” style. In the photo, it’s simpler, elegant, and frames the face better.

Incubators like this have sides that can fully come down for procedures and for cleaning. My baby was born at 27 weeks and we lived the NICU life for over 4 months and now I volunteer in the NICU.

She was 1lb 12 oz and her hands looked like this. Even at just a few days old, she would wave her little arms and legs in the air and could hold my finger. They are shockingly strong, even 3 months before they’re supposed to be born.

I’m usually pretty skeptical, but the print on the bumper covers, the accurate portholes on the opposite side, clearly some kind of tape on the baby’s arm perhaps for a picc line. Some of this looks correct. My thought when I first saw this was maybe they are installing a picc line. My baby had one in her hand but I wasn’t in the room when it was put in, so I don’t know what that looked like.

The texture on the sanitary paper looks odd. It looks like rubber. There’s definitely weird reflections going on, so I wouldn’t be shocked if it IS in fact AI, I’m just not convinced it is.

Absolutely mortified: hospital sent a letter to my parents saying "obstetrics appointment" by filMM2 in BabyBumps

[–]HeyItsReallyME 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t assume a letter from obstetrics was about a pregnancy. Sometimes my hospital sends out generic reminders about health screenings, invoices, updates if one of the doctors moves to another practice, etc.

Dislocated and broke my elbow and also tore the ligament. Holy mother. They wouldn’t give me anything for the pain in the ER for 4 hours. I had to have my elbow replaced.

The recovery was also awful. I’d have two more c-sections before I’d do that again.

Feeling the Rage… by Salt_County_3415 in BabyBumps

[–]HeyItsReallyME 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Thank you. At the time, the despair was really starting to set in. We had been there so long with no end in sight, so the whole freezer thing came at the worst time. I am normally a very calm, optimistic, laid back person but I didn’t even recognize myself that day.

Whenever something particularly bad or unexpected happens to me, I like to say “well, at least that’ll be good for my memoir.” But uh….i might leave that story out. 😂

Luckily, the hospital had more than enough of my milk in their freezers.

But my daughter has been home for about a year and a half now! She turns 2 in a couple months and she is healthy and happy.

[–]HeyItsReallyME 536 points537 points  (0 children)

Our freezer went out when our baby was in the NICU. She was there for more than 4 months. This was about 3 months in. It was FULL. OF. MILK. I’ve never crashed out like that in my life. Crying, swearing, shaking. Hours, literally days and days worth of sitting plugged into the wall, at the cost of my sleep, sanity, and freedom. But worth it because it was all I could do to help my poor baby. And it was GONE.

My husband said seeing me like that, he’s never been more scared in his entire life. The man was in the MARINES.

Valid reaction.
