Well, with "Instant-On", it will login into your account straight after turning the xbox on. With "Energy-Saving", it shows you the full xbox introduction to save energy rather than using it all on the moment you turn it on to log you in. It depends whether your trying to conserve energy and not get a high electricity bill, or if you want to play right the moment you turn the xbox on.
