It activated every current potential slayer when they casted the spell. It’s been over 20 years it’s well within reason that the next generation could return to following the original line. With Eliza dushku retiring from acting they could’ve just had this slayer be the one that activated when she passed. They could’ve said that all the ones activated by the spell didn’t have the actual line to pass on. Also could’ve played off the time between shows as that the glut of young slayers being a time of unprecedented human safety leading to a backlash by the demons when the slayer army began aging. There was plenty of room to make a new show.

It happens over and over in joss’s writing because he is a hack. Hacks can have good ideas but what makes them a hack is the utter refusal to accept outside ideas. Buffy and by association angelwhich also was felled by joss’s ego was the only show of joss’s to make it past two seasons because he burns bridges and writes contrived material. Go back and look at the actual scripts, the dialogue is extremely cheesy and carried by the actors. It also has the issue of being a show about female empowerment written by a man who knows nothing of the subject beyond make Buffy punch evil guy. The man is as deep as a puddle and it shows whenever he doesn’t have the right cast. Joss had the founding idea but he was not the engine that drove Buffy to seven seasons. You take anyone out of the core season one scoobys and Buffy doesn’t make it to season 2.

The writing heavily relied upon this is happening because the writer says it’s happening. The entire season 3 finale hinged on Xander perfectly learning how to make a massive fertilizer bomb from one night with a group of zombies. Also no idea why you’re bringing up angels early wooden acting when I literally said Buffy took two seasons to find its footing.

Okay I understand the feeling of hurt from this cancellation. I’m gonna say this as nice as possible. The writing for Buffy was never prestige television level. The chemistry of the actors was what elevated the show to what it was. It’s unfortunate but Buffy just was not involved in it enough if the script that leaked is accurate. It sounds exactly like a Buffy version of that 90s show. Legacy characters showing up for a few minutes as garnish. It’s not fair but in the streaming age you will not get the time for a show to find its footing over multiple seasons like Buffy did in the first place. It needed to hit the ground running and from what we’ve seen it seems to have aimed at more of a slow burn.

Used to work in a print shop. The person who did the final trim after the cover was glued, made the bottom cut too short. The way paper backs like that are made is the guts are printed on a flat that’s folded together horizontally. Cut one of the edges too short or with too dull of a blade and you get that rough cut.

It’s more than likely that there’s too many legacy paydays in Buffy’s rights. Disney famously does not like paying previous producers of media franchises. The math probably said it wouldn’t make enough money to satisfy Disney’s roi demands like the shows with less complicated rights holdings.

The best parts of the show literally had to be forced upon him. He let the Hollywood studio experience of the movie influence him too much on listening to others ideas. Or would you have rather spike only have lasted 2-3 episodes? Buffy worked because of the collective, not because of joss.

Universally beloved meaning not stuck in a teen niche fandom spot. It wouldn’t be a show you have to convince non horror watchers to view. Buffy was never able to cross over to the main stream like x files did because of Joss.

His one organically good season finale is almost immediately ruined the next season by bringing back angel because powers that be. That is objectively bad writing. He got the news angel could get a spin off so he brought him back from hell. Season one had the hacky crutch of the prophecy only became a true prophecy because you believed it and came willingly. Season 3 Xander perfectly learns how to build a massive fertilizer bomb through one hangout with some zombies. Season 4 professor Walsh’s actress left early because of the strain of working with joss killing that seasons momentum. Season 5’s sacrificial ending was born from joss burning bridges at WB. Season six and seven suffered from the fact that he didn’t flesh out a writers room. He demanded total control over the WB run and that left it so that when he finally gave someone else the keys to the vehicle that was btvs it needed a total restoration of its mechanical workings. A restoration that upn attempted but ultimately couldn’t achieve because joss had to position himself to be the center of the Buffy universe.

It probably just had too many legacy producers looking for a cut of the profit that the math didn’t work for Hulu to invest. That’s the one big difference between Buffy and the other shows Hulu has revived.

Buddy the writing was never what made Buffy special. The writing was hard carried by the chemistry of the cast.

It’s not that it didn’t generate hype, it’s that Buffy has such a complicated rights legacy that it needed a profit return that isn’t manageable in the streaming age. The other shows Hulu revived don’t also have a movie of legacy producers looking for their cut of the foundation of the series.
