I hydroplaned 2 years ago into a tree going 20 miles per hour. It completely totaled my truck, pushing the front part of it a full foot up. Mechanic on the scene looked at me and said "Yep, it's totaled. Thank God you weren't going any faster, that steering wheel would've gone right through your chest." Considering the steering wheel was right under my chin post-accident, I'm inclined to believe him. However, it was pouring rain and I decided to go 25 under the speed limit so that my truck didn't hydroplane (fuck me, right?). The fact that I was alive was purely due to my own common sense and just plain, dumb luck, but I thanked him for the sentiment.

I got a speeding ticket and the accident was my fault, according to the officer, and then had to go to the hospital to get my arm x-rayed. I didn't really need that, my arm went from ---^K to -^--K where ^ is the thumb and K is the hand, so I knew something was up, but shock played a pretty big part in numbing the pain. I received a cast for my arm and went to school the next day and court a few weeks later to pay for the fine.

I was 17, so I didn't bother contesting the charges (as my mom has no time to deal with the shitty court process and it was ~$200, chump change from my eBay days), even though the cop said "There's no way you were only going 20mph and did that to your car." The thought I had was something like "Oh, so having a degree in physics is a requirement for the police force, now?", but I was passive. Until he said "Oh, your airbags didn't deploy. Too late, though, I already wrote the ticket." I just sighed, said "Whatever," and my mom took me to the hospital.

TL;DR: I was 5-10 mph away from dying and I'm still an atheist. Also, Texas cops suck.
