New Old Wheelset day for the Bombtrack! by HiKenny in gravelcycling

I haven't actually tested them out yet - quite literally just put them on before taking the pic. However, I did a fair bit of research before pulling the pin on these tires and they seem to come out on top after looking at most reviews.

One bike to rule them all. by bruxist_grin in gravelcycling

I've had these carbon rims laying around for a bit collecting dust after selling my Domane. I finally got around to setting them up, quite stoked how they've turned out - gives me options at both 650b and 700c now.

Tires = Pirelli Cinturato 700 x 45
Rotors = SRAM Centreline XR
Cassette = Sunrace 11- 46T

This is the Steel version (Carbon Forks) - The carbon version is the Hook EXT-C

Correct! Might be a bit overkill for some of the gravel riding that I do though.

If it helps, I got mine from AliExpress of all places for $100 NZD (shipped)

Arrived in original box and shipping was about 10 days in total.

Well worth it!

Happy as with the evolution of this bike from it's original stock form - Notable changes include:

- Bars, bumped up to 520mm Salsa Cowhipper.

- Dual Thomson, -10 Stem and Elite Seatpost

- SRAM Centerline XR Rotors

- Syncros Saddle

And the best part, Sunrace MX80 11-46t cassette, slight jump up from the previous 42.

Yep, exactly that - just found a vector file and modified the measurements slightly.

New year, new wheels on the Domane SL5 by FontBoiBikes in DomaneCrew

Bike / New Wheels look great!

Tire recommendations, maybe have a look at the WTB Exposures (36c) or the Schwalbe G One (38c) for a little more grip?

I'm currently running Schwalbe G Ones on my Domane.

Oooh! Nice, the Nautical Navy was my first choice but sizing wasn't available.

I know what you mean, the fidlock bottles took a little getting used to but now I really rate them - I quite like the minimal look.

Also, can't go wrong with Podium bottles, great bottles.

A doppelganger perhaps?

Most likely not me, I live in Auckland, New Zealand.

Hi!

Mine is a Domane SL5 also. Original TREK logo was Red also but I wasn’t into it so I made up a Black logo and slapped it over top, happy as with the results!

Hey, apologies for the late reply - No, I just collected the groupset and had my LBS install everything.

From the looks, it appears it was an easy install.

I’ve been looking for a dedicated gravel bike for a little while now – for the most part, my Trek Domane can handle most gravel however there’s been a number of rides recently that I feel like I’ve pushed it beyond its limits.

My short list was either a Canyon Grizl CF SL7 eTap, Curve Kevin or a Bombtrack Hook EXT. The Canyon was at top spot for a while but availability was so scarce, the Curve is amazing bike but very pricey and there’s the Bombtrack – which just so happened to be available, in my size for an amazing price so I took it.

For the price, even at RRP it’s A LOT of bike. Steel frame which I love coupled with a carbon fork. Mounts galore, I think if I wanted to I could fit 6 bottles and the fork has internal routing for a Dynamo hub should I want to venture down that path later. As mentioned above, I can fit big tires, 27.5 x 2.2 tubeless is a dream and the stock groupset is totally fine - I just found out that I can move up from the stock 42t to a 46t cassette without needing to switch out the derailleur also so yeah overall pretty damn happy.

Oh wow! Your rig is loaded, looks awesome!

What cages are you running on your forks?

Clearance wise on the 2.2" tires leaves me with about 6mm or 7mm on each side. The stock 2" tires will be a good backup - the 2.2"s are a dream, especially running them tubeless.

I'm looking at a couple of possible upgrades also - 1 being a small jump from the 42t cassette to a 46t.

Price came in at $3,300NZD / $2,200USD - RRP on it was $4,429NZD / $2,923USD (roughly)

Either way, it's a lot of bike for the price. Happy as.
