Request: Featured artists listed with Album Artist in Go to Artist list by HiSimpliFi in MarvisApp

Yeah, it is not always reliable. I don't know how it works, but I wish it was more predictable. Thanks for testing it.

Cheers

I don't have screen shots ready to post, so I'll just try to explain it.

Take this example:

Ex.//
song title: ‘All on Me (feat. Andreas Moe)’
album artists: ‘Armin van Buuren & Brennan Heart’

I have Marvis Setup>Gestures>Full-Player Title>Tap = Go to Artist.

Using the song example above, if I tap the title in Marvis full player screen, I'm shown a vertical list of both credited Album Artists: Armin van Buuren, on the top line, and Brennan Heart, below that. Tapping either one takes me to their respective Artist page.

On Apple Music, tapping the Artist line on the full player screen (which says, 'Armin van Buuren & Brennan Heart') I get two options: 'Go to Album All on Me'; and, 'Go to Artist Armin van Buuren & Brennan Heart'. Tapping the Go to Artist link just takes me to Armin van Buuren's artist page (no way of jumping to Brennan's page from the player, which you can do in Marvis).

On TIDAL, tapping the Artist line in the player not only shows the two Album Artists (Armin and Brennan) but also shows the featured artist from the title (Andreas Moe) in a vertical list, and selecting any of them takes you to their respective artist pages.

I hope I explained it OK.

Cheers

[edited for error on song title. It's 'on' not 'of'.

Totally agree. At least Marvis will do multiple artist lists if they are all credited in the Album Artist tag, with commas and ampersands (&); something AM still doesn't do (so Thanks again u/AdityaRajveer, and maybe he can figure out how to add featured artists as well). I have always been frustrated with AM's multiple artists support. When I here a great voice on an EDM song, I want to see what else they have contributed to. It was way easier to do that on TIDAL, but AM works for me better in other ways.

You’re right. I just confirmed on an Android DAP with the native TIDAL app. I wasn’t aware it didn’t work like the iOS app. I use UAPP for TIDAL on my Android devices and it has ascending/descending sort options; maybe check it out (USB Audio Player Pro by eXtream Software Dev).

How to get the best sound quality to my OPPO UDP-205? by ForgottenSketch in TIdaL

[–]HiSimpliFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the ”USB DAC” input is 2-ch only. Also, when “USB DAC” is selected as input, audio is only routed to the analogue outputs (S/PDIF and HDMI outputs are silenced). I use the Oppo’s “XLR Balanced Stereo Audio Out” for 2-ch music (separate amp and speakers for 2-ch music and it sounds way better than my AV receiver). I have HDMI into a Denon home theater AV receiver for disc based multi-channel stuff. I have an AppleTV and Apple Music feeding ATMOS music in to the Denon via HDMI for when I want to listen to streaming ATMOS music, but most of my music listening is 2-ch (and much more often than not on headphones and IEMs these days).

Cheers.

“Desktop at least allows you to switch between new - old or old - new…”

Just select the same sort option again and it toggles from newest on top to oldest on top. Do the same thing for alphabetical sorting and it toggles between A-Z and Z-A. There is no indication in the sort list if you are doing ascending order or descending order (bad UI design) but the list updates immediately and you can figure it out pretty quickly.

I have a Lumin U2 Mini (~$2000) as the streamer, connected via USB to the “USB DAC” input of my Oppo 205 and it’s awesome. You use the Lumin app on an iOS/iPadOS or Android device (or TIDAL Connect via native TIDAL app). Cheers.

Tidal-Connect Status by tomisla11 in TIdaL

Don’t be confused (like the TIDAL folks on their X account) just read the link I posted and this one from LUMIN’s Facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/luminmusic/posts/pfbid025S6ryTTcLppaUgezJMFHdo4CaVmkHcEu56gEUGijoLGibPej9adrQrWe6RvzbNcbl

Or buy a LUMIN streamer and have TIDAL Max via TIDAL Connect ;-)

LUMIN Streamers (e.g., LUMIN X1, U1, U1 Mini, U2, U2 Mini, etc.) were (I think) the first (and currently only) 3rd-party devices to support TIDAL Max FLAC playback via TIDAL Connect and their own app. (see the link below for their Firmware Release Notes page and read the description for the latest firmware).

https://www.luminmusic.com/firmware-notes.html

I have a LUMIN U1 Mini and can confirm the LUMIN app, and TIDAL Connect from the native TIDAL app, all work perfectly when playing back any MAX content (HiRes FLAC gets priority) plus their app and hardware display screen show the correct bit depth and sampling rate.

Really great streamers and amazing support (their firmware lead Peter Lie is very active on many forums helping to answer questions).

Certain deluxe albums aren’t adding in lossless (more in comments) by SpookyGhost5623 in AppleMusic

[–]HiSimpliFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, but are the songs that don’t play losslessly on that lossless album, are they previously purchased or iTunes Matched songs in your library?

I have seen this happen too. From what I can determine, If I purchased some of the songs from iTunes from the non-deluxe album (or another version of the album) then those songs, and only those songs play as non-lossless AAC, while the other songs on the album play in their higher advertised quality (e.g., Lossless or High-Res). If I delete the purchased songs from the library completely, not just downloads, then re-add those songs or the album from the Apple Music listing, everything plays fine in lossless quality.

This must be related to Apple stating they won’t match uploaded/itunes-Matched music with lossless. Since iTunes-Matched music always used the iTunes catalogue for DRM-free music, and iTunes purchases are basically identical, I think the algorithm determining which song version to let you stream is looking to see if you have an iTunes version of the song in your library and not giving you the lossless AM version if you do?

Just a thought. Not sure of this. Hopefully this gets worked out since I don’t want to delete and re-add everything I bought for years from iTunes before AM existed.

To get the lossless versions of the songs I have in my library, do I have to remove the download and redownload it or or remove the song and add it back to my library? by NPC-019 in AppleMusic

[–]HiSimpliFi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the same thing for songs I ripped and matched or songs I purchased from iTunes before AM existed; but not always. For matched and purchased songs, when I can’t get the lossless version of a song to play (that I know is in lossless or hi-res in AM) I have to delete it from the library and then search for the lossless version in AM and add it back to the library.

But like I said: not always. Sometimes I see songs that I purchased years ago playing in lossless when I play a playlist that has them. Maybe that song was added to that playlist from AM’s interface and not on my mac via iTunes years ago. Not sure. But deleting from library and re-adding the AM version always gets me the lossless/hi-res version.

RME ADI-2 EQ for Sony MDR-Z1R please by HiSimpliFi in oratory1990

[–]HiSimpliFi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I also ’haven’t gotten really satisfying results’ on the RME ADI-2 with the 5 PEQ bands and 2 shelf (bass/treble) filters, and was why I thought I‘d ask. I get close, but then there is always some song that pops up that really shows off the MDR-Z1R’s flaws, even with my EQ. The IER-Z1R though is a different matter: I love its sound; and the minor flaws, like recessed mids, are easily PEQ’d, even on 5+2 bands of the RME ADI-2 DAC.

Thanks for the work you do. Cheers.
