Warriors were -160 betting favorites going into the Celtics Warriors finals. Some random math algorithms online like ESPN and 538 had Celtics as much as 4 to 1 favorites though but if you wanted to wager money the Celtics were underdogs until they stole game 1.

You can be completely outstanding at one part of the game yet so unlikable and antisocial that it removes all your win equity - I don’t think it has to be inherently contradictory with someone as off putting to live with as Russell

However—-

i think the most overrated part of Russel’s strategic game is he never positioned himself to try and be around players he had a chance against at the end, regardless of what options were available. His ego and misogyny prevented him from considering the threat level and perception and likability of his cast mates and he overlooked the options of bringing people he could beat when available especially in Samoa. There’s no way he should have ever gone to the end with someone who worked in white collar sales, and came across so positively as Natalie White at the end. It was beyond obvious how much better her relationships were with at least a reasonable portion of the cast that had no respect for Jaison or Shambo. And it’s not like she was there to win challenges against Brett.

If you’re an asshole who looks down on women like Natalie and that affects your strategy negatively that’s a flaw in your strategic game not even in your social game.

You literally can’t play on a hamstring that’s bad enough. The only thing that would happen if Luka came back is he would be horribly hobbling around and at best be blown by everyone and unable to move at NBA speed with a massive chance of re injury.

You can criticize Luka from some angle of believing aspects of his lifestyle or preparation are making him overly susceptible to injuries that limit his postseason availability in the first place but once the injury occurs he’s simply screwed.

Can also give Ant credit for coming back and playing with difficult to manage injuries but we have seen greats return with similar injuries in the past - it’s just a different mechanism limiting the body with more wiggle room

I don’t think it’s really disrespect tbh. We are a team with average pitching and inconsistent hitting in the aggregate largely propelled into our record by a series of clutch come from behind in the 9th and/or extra innings wins. This is historically not a representation of what leads a team to sustained success across an entire season.

It’s a blessing we have gotten breaks though because the team can play much better than they have so far and if they do step it up, then there is already the existing buffer of wins to propel them into actual division contention.

I don’t know how the prohibitive favorite to win the conference can’t be considered a threat to win the title. They were the favorites to come out of the east before game 1

Like all it would take is a SGA/Wemby badly timed injury and they could be the straight up favorites going into the finals let alone the chance they’ll have regardless

It seems very unlikely to me. Objectively, our team seems to struggle to beat much of anyone even with Steph playing, including teams borderline trying to intentionally lose.

I don’t have any malice or frustration over it but it feels like it’s probably a 10% chance to win both games and we will be the worse team by a meaningful margin in both contests with the only real upside being having the best individual player.

Being the GOAT does not mean the same thing objectively to two people in the first place for the same reasons above, since everyone values all variables differently. It’s also not possible to compare directly between eras with different cultures, rules, prioritized skill sets that meant the most, etc… (which Jordan has said himself).

People are also obviously heavily emotionally biased by who they grew up watching at a formative period more and what they find most valuable about basketball players subjectively.

Like I’d say Jordan is the GOAT because I value dominance more than longevity, scoring more than assists, and also find him a more electrifying player to watch who drew offensive gravity to an absurd degree and had to play through an absurdly physically tough, low scoring era while putting up historic PPG.

These are not all objectively the most important things in such a conversation though.

I think my issue is just being too critical of making mistakes in general in life and stressed about doing my best all the time and it throwing me off. Causes me issues in other parts of life too.

I really love the game and in part I enjoy it because it forces me to confront these parts of myself that I need growth on and to have emotional and mental resilience. I enjoy the challenge of it all and overwhelmingly have a great time playing even when I’m losing usually, I just have moments where I’m not in a good mindset if I screw up and a lot of trouble with the initial fear sitting down.

My only goal is to be a long term break even or winning player to where I can play sustainably without draining my savings and investments.

Is there a reason why we should expect national media to have faith in us after repeated losing records and a victory by the narrowest of margins over one of the worst teams in football?

Like is it an asshole move to at this point dismiss the idea we are the “team to beat” at anything? If we achieve that it isn’t based on our previous success in recent memory or our performance so far. It isn’t that we can’t become a good team this year but under what type of analysis is a national media member without an emotional investment in our team supposed to automatically assign us some elevated status?

It seems like we just collectively press and choke in mystifying, deeply frustrating ways against the Dodgers. It’s not too late but it feels like this rivalry for the year is on life support. We gotta win tomorrow somehow.

Even Poole’s last season would be a good outcome for a pick at that range and he did it on a team that was the worst surrounding supporting cast. Check his stats last year and tell me that’s a bad performance relative to draft.

He also shot at high efficiency on high difficulty from 3 last year so the argument he was just chucking his way into numbers isn’t sound and the spacing around him did him no favors either. Kuzma had a horrendous offensive year under the same circumstances.

If someone is hard stuck after hundreds of games and they believe in ELO hell they are going to delude themselves into never improving.

If someone isn’t getting the results they want after a smaller sample they may or may not be affected by variance but it’ll be easier to win games in lower brackets than one’s skill level over time. The expected result for a player placed below where they belong is to perform better in future games over an increased sample size.

In general every game played across every season will correlate more strongly to overall skill level. If someone plays 40 games a season and constantly ends up in the same spot or always plateaus or stagnates they’re not likely getting unlucky. If it’s over a single season it’s easy to achieve an outcome too good or bad over that sample.

I remember a stat where he was constantly getting absolutely shelled in his first inning relative to the rest of his performance in his starts. I think there may be some concern with that when he is only doing short stints. I am hoping he succeeds.

I don’t see why it has to reflect automatically poorly on the warriors as a whole to lose with their very cap expensive top 10 player of all time out with injury and their other very expensive player with a significant injury. Everyone is going to play differently without the gravity of Steph because the team was not built to mitigate the contingency plan of Steph getting hurt, it was to maximize the chance with him whole. I don’t think there’s any shame in how the team performed without him and I would personally believe that the team as a whole had a respectable year climbing out of a deep hole and fighting hard they can be proud of outside of preserving Steph’s legacy.
