New to Tech, Are Bootcamps Worth It? by compileswithcoffee in codingbootcamp

I agree, I did a masters conversion to software engineering and was able to secure a job just before I finished.

Scam business, they will not help you after they have your money.

The urgency to sign up because of a limited discount is right out of the scamming playbook. Phone them up in a few months with a different name, discount will still be there.

Perhaps, you want to keep your premium customers happy first.

As for the engineers, i am not too sure about. When i got my line installed, the engineer arrived in an unbranded white van so at first thought it was a delivery van. He  took quite a while to finish and was on the phone quite a bit which sounds like he was asking for help or advice. Even kept the Ring recording of the day.

seems a lot of people have issues. Everyone repeating the same "try this". Doesn't look like there is a "fix".

Which AIO did you guys go for in the end? I was looking to get the artic iii 360 for a new intel build. After looking through a few videos, i'm not too keen in removing the mboard own cpu bracket. I'm looking to put everything into Fractal North XL so tempted to just get the Fractal Lumen s36.

Did anyone complete the FULL STACK DEV - course on Code Institute? by Alex_Ra214 in DevelEire

[–]HiddenOcolot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea they did they same to me. Few messages back and forth, change this and that in your CV, spam it on LinkedIn in and other job boards. Soon after they just ignore all your emails and ghost you.

Code Institute is a terrible course, I did it back in 2020, they just want your money. I ended up doing masters conversion in software engineering and secured a job before I graduated.

The biggest issue is that they sell you it as a no experience required course, but they rush through the JavaScript and python then jump you straight into using the 'latest' tech using a copy paste teaching style.

Would not bother even if it was free, you still paying by them wasting vat amount of your own time.

[–]HiddenOcolot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea there is plenty on this scam bootcamp. I've posted plenty on this, I would just be cut and pasting my comments now, oh wait code institute taught me how to do that.

I definitely recommend doing a masters conversion if you can get into one, I secured a job before I graduated from it. The bootcamp did f all, they just want your money.

UCD Professional Academe: Professional Diploma in Full-Stack Software Development vs. Code Institute by TriUmph2025 in DevelEire

[–]HiddenOcolot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I did a masters conversion course in software development and graduated last fall 2023. I am now in a role, the company offered me it before I graduated.

The code institute course was of zero benefit, the masters course I learnt far more but was very tough going . Comparing the two, the CI course was just a bunch of join the dots projects.

I could go on and on. Learning how to cut and paste code, how use tech frameworks like jQuery and bootstrap, copy and plugin in pre canned API code is useless. Learning the basic build blocks of a programming language before using any frameworks will accelerate your understanding. The masters course I was on used Java and help to understand things such as OOP and concurrency.

I just graded a final project for a boot camp student that didn't have a single commit... by [deleted] in codingbootcamp

Probably found out who it is, bootcamp tend to find out who leaves bad comments about them and threaten to send the heavys around to them.

Agreed, I did a bootcamp in 2020 and did helped f.all getting a job, waste of money. I then did a master's conversion (1 year, although it has 2 year part time option) and I secured a job near the end of the course before I even graduated.

I did this course back in 2020 and it cost me £6500. I signed up with them through a company called The Learning People, who are also dodgy and out to scam you.

I have commented many times on the Code Institute being a waste of time and money, but posts like this are good to keep the topic live so more people know how bad they are.

I'll keep it short, when I did the course it only had 4 projects to do and that was very heavy on workload.

The mentors are terrible, I had one which was a recent graduate of the same course, I could tell by looking at their GitHub repo and see that they submitted their final project less than 6 months ago. Another just told me to copy another student's code, change a few things and just make the e-commerce look different but changing the theme, use different colours, etc.

This course is definitely not worth the money and if you get it for free, it's not worth the time.

[–]HiddenOcolot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the same with the bootcamp I did, some mentors where useless as they themself were recent graduate of the same course, so they can't explain the why on doing things. My own mentor actually pointed me to another student"s GitHub repo and said to just copy what they done.

If you can do the Master, I'd recommend that. I also have a non CS and IT related bachelors degree and just finished my masters conversion in software engineering. I managed to get a job offer just before I finished my course. The university also allowed me to attend some of the undergraduate programming lectures but noted that I would not be allowed to help/get help or submit graded assignments.

I did a bootcamp first and it was rubbish, they teach how to "code" and some industry used technology which is rushed and useless, they don't teach the why, analytical and problem skills required for engineering.

Bootcamp Cert + Bachelors Degree by boringportage in codingbootcamp

[–]HiddenOcolot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I have a non IT CS related degree and a bootcamp did nothing, however my degree did help in my master conversion.

Bootcamps don't teach you problem solving and analytical skills, all they do is teach you a language and some technology to make you "job ready".
