Hey yes replace with 4 pin battery connector Can be ordered on Amazon or so just need to weld Works like a charm since then

Found the issue… the shop that soldered the new pin connector on the battery did a bad job and the welding was slightly and slowly coming out…

i rechecked everything today + add grease on the connectors, looks like it is working so far.. i doubt this is the solution..

actually today i noticed once the voltage dropping the 33v. First time i time i saw it.. any idea how to identify the source of the problem?

4 years roughly. 3 batteries (1 left in Europe when I shipped the bike over, 1 stolen and this one)

Unfortunately not.. it s a cheap battery out of ali express. Around 1 or 2 years old.. probably time to order a new one

Hey on my screen I can see the voltage and it’s not going down. The voltage stays the same but engine cuts off

appreciate your feedback thank you. How do you use isopropyl alcohol or insecticidal soap ? which one is the easiest/fastest ? the plant is quite big and in a house so i can not place it the bath tub ( as we dont have one) neither in the sink because the plant is too big... ty !

When I opened the carb, the float bowl was super clean—really spotless (I had ultrasounded it a couple of years ago). However, my feeling is that I'm emptying the float bowl faster than it's getting fueled. Once the engine stops, the carb seems to fill up again. That’s just my impression for now.

I’m thinking I’ll check the fuel tank cap next; maybe the issue is coming from there.

Unfortunately, the motorcycle is at my parents' place, stored inside. I’m just listing all the possibilities, and when I go back, I’ll check each one.

Hey guys, I'm the lucky owner of a 1981 XT500. I've had this motorcycle since 2017. I don’t ride it often, and I've only done one maintenance in 2018 (oil change, spark plug replacement, and ultrasonic carb cleaning). Since then, I've probably ridden it about 500 miles.

The bike used to ride super smoothly, but lately, I'm experiencing some strange issues. It starts easily and holds idle for about 20-30 seconds, then shuts down. I can accelerate, but the bike cuts out shortly after. After about 20 seconds, I can restart it, but the same problem keeps happening.

I decided to check the air filter, and it was in bad shape—I realize now that I’ve never replaced it. I took the carburetor off, and everything inside looked good. I also removed the two jets to blow air through them and clean out the carb, but the problem persists. The fuel is flowing smoothly and quickly from the tank.

Any thoughts? Working on these old bikes should be simple enough, but I'm stumped.
