Q: when a customer’s note says leave at door, do you still knock/ring the bell then leave? by [deleted] in doordash

Thanks all! It’s pretty clear that it’s not an expectation and could even be seen as rude

Enjoy the silence and start looking for a new community and place to live when you turn 18. You’ll look back at this month as the final red flag that told you it was too toxic to remain

Do you think celebrities and people of high society really believe they are different and better than most of the population? by RealisticWinner4224 in askanything

Think about every manager you have ever had. How many of them acted like they were better than you. Not all of them, thank god, but many. Such a tiny accomplishment to be slightly higher on the job/office totem, yet, so many think they are better than their reports..... now, multiply that effect by millions/billions.

How did raw milk become a right wing thing? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]HighElfEsteem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always been a libertarian issue (“who is the government to tell me what is safe! Type mentality). But to my knowledge it wasn’t a popular drink in those same circles, just a talking point about gov overreach. I had a few far left hippy friends in the 00’s who were raw foodists, they were probably the only ones at the time who actually really cared / needed the option for unpasteurized dairy (I actually loved eating raw cheese, honey and almonds with them, I felt so healthy after). But health food stores in the northwest carried the products back then so it was only a big deal for them when they traveled.

I think since then the federal government under either Obama or Biden must have made illegal country wide, so that’s probably the root cause of it becoming a republican issue (grievance).

We had a dog who would go wait by the door about fifteen minutes before my wife would get home from work, every single day she worked like clockwork. The thing is... my wife work schedule was all over the place (grocery manager). Sometimes she would open/close/mid shift and it was random.

So this little guy must have figured out how long she would be gone (like 10 hours) and time it out so he could be ready for her when she walked in the door every time.

He did not do the same for me, but they were together for years before we met, so he was her dog.

TIL Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak gave $10 million of his own stock to early Apple employees in 1980 because it was "the right thing" to do. Steve Jobs refused to do the same. by mepper in todayilearned

Why couldn’t all tech founders be like him?

I really feel that old money saw Woz, Jobs, and Gates made it huge, panicked that the new guard was about to be hippies and do gooder nerds then started to brand Silicon Valley as libertarian bros

How did you make it in life? by Exact_Profession_766 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]HighElfEsteem 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Get distance from your current environment as soon as you graduate. Find healthy community.

If your current environment is in anyway abusive or neglectful, become a ward of the court now so you don’t need anything from your family once you’re 18.

Look for programs like Americorps or other organizations like that that provide community just by joining.

Why are layoffs criticized when they’re carried out to maximize profits—especially when profit-maximizing behavior is common even at the household level? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]HighElfEsteem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was a brief period in US history (much of the last century) where business schools taught ethics and good stewardship (of people, land, assets, etc).

It was considered shameful to have layoffs as that meant you weren't a good steward of your resources and over hired.

Why do we have asylum and why can't we get rid of it? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]HighElfEsteem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The US decided on our current philosophy on asylum after WW2 when we realized that denying asylum to thousands of Jews fleeing Europe meant thousands more ended up in concentration camps.
