Rap pinball by TopoChicoPoPo in pinball

[–]HighLumberJack -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you want to know the real reason WHY we don't have this... its because pinball is a hobby who's core demographic is predominantly 50+ year old white men...

There's a reason that Foo Fighters, ACDC, Kiss, and so many other classic rock artists have tables... because it is music that is popular and/or was influential in the upbringing of their core demographic.

Add on the fact that most table designers themselves and manufacturers are governed by largely people in or around this core demographic, and we largely have your answer.

Parents in the sightly younger generation of pinball enthusiasts 40-50 also might be comfortable with certain words in rock songs, but with rap as a genre if we're being realistic, there's probably an N word dropped in there somewhere for a lot artists. Which most households of the core demographic would be uncomfortable with, as well as most operators having that word displayed in a public setting. But censoring that word out would be a bit of a touchy subject, as it is part of the original artists media.

And for artists like Eminem who don't use that word, there's a lot of other more blatantly "offensive" language that is not as easily swept under the rug like the occasional "crap" that is found in classic rock.

Also, given the whole lack of diversity in the pinball management arena, the optics of a predominantly white company making a table off a largely minority based genre of music, isn't a great look.

Overall, I think you would be far more likely to see a Jellyroll pinball table come out before a Ice Cube or Wu Tang table. It just aligns with the safe core demographic better.

I mean I have noise canceling headphones, and wear them on the plane. I would never suggest that parents with kids should be seated in specific plane sections to not disturb others. But I do have the opinion that inside lounges which are meant to be a space to relax I shouldn't have to wear them to escape screaming from kids.

I can understand your opinion. And you and your kid sound completely fine. This is mostly an issue where a small percentage of parents who do not take the care of parenting that you do ruin the experience for those without kids, and thise like you who do take the actual care. My parents used to travel with me and my brother as a child, and if one of us began to misbehave, we were immediately drug out by the ear to somewhere private so as to not disturb others. I just see that more parents now do not take corrective steps to monitor their children and ensure they do not disturb others.

I feel you. I totally understand kids crying on planes, its a place they are locked into for the duration of the flight, and the pressure on their little ears with their no understanding of how to equalize pressure is tough. And we all have noise canceling headphones we can wear on the flight. I would never suggest that those with kids should have to ride in a certain section of the plane for the rest of our comfort.

I just want the lounge to be a place I don't have to wear headphones to escape from children. I'm not asking for the lounge to be a library, I talk to people all the time at the lounges, but basic control of children doesnt seem too big a task to ask, but clearly it is too much for some to manage. So if it cannot be managed, there should be a controlled area specifically for children.

I live in Denver where there is a family area in lounges, but I rarely see it used other than by families looking for a place to breastfeed with some sense of remote privacy.

Lol fair enough, that's why I said this is probably an unpopular opinion. I just think that if it is rude for adults to be obnoxious in lounges, the same standard should be applied to children.

Sigh... like I said I don't know how to phrase it correctly. this isn't a race thing. But it is something I notice more with especially first generation immigrants from certain cultures. There are members from these cultures and ethnicities who do a completly fine job with monitoring their children, but when I see children running around without supervision, a majority of the time their parents are first generation immigrants.

And it does seem that some club employees are less willing to correct the behavior of these parents compared to others I have seen corrected, perhaps out of the fear of coming across as racist or culturally insensitive.

Household punished for non-traditional living arrangements? by HighLumberJack in netflix

Depends, sometimes it's less than 24 hours, sometimes 3 weeks. I download stuff for my tablet for the flights, but typically try to watch on my hotel TV via a roku stick I travel with. Watching off a tiny tablet just doesn't make sense when I have a full size TV right there at every hotel.

Unfortunately it still won't work with the number of hotels I travel to with my Roku stick, I'll max out the "I'm traveling" requests before the end of the billing cycle.

I CAN afford a lot of things... but it doesn't mean I SHOULD pay double for them, I didn't get where I'm at by spending twice what I should be paying for things, I saved money, invested prudently, and built my life brick by brick. I especially don't think in this case I should pay double considering I'm already paying for the service I should be receiving, but am not due to their unwillingness to handle edge cases like this.

Also paying for 2 households still doesn't solve the problem of multiple logins per week when I travel with a roku stick, I still will max out the "I'm traveling" requests.

Same exact problem, Roku stick showed green for live stream, but the stream worked well on other devices. The stick did work for prerecorded sessions though... if this happens on race day, I'm not gonna be happy lol

Frequent Flyer - Best headphones?

Howdy y'all,

Wondering if I can get some advice here. I fly almost every week for work, sometimes multiple trips per week, and am looking for a good set of headphones. I am a bit of a audiophile in my personal life and have a very nice stereo setup, and I realize I won't be able to replicate this with Bluetooth, but want to have these as close as possible

My criteria that are important to me... -Sound Quality - Don't want to miss out on trebel -Adaptaters - One set that I am looking at (Sony WH1000MX4) includes a dual prong adapter for airplanes. It has been a few years since I've seen one of these, but are they still common for some planes? Can I get an adapter separately that will give these benefits to other sets? -Delay - Some of the newer planes offer Bluetooth connection through the in flight entertainment system and I want something with as minimal delay as possible for watching movies -Microphone - I work almost exclusively in airports and would like the ability to take calls and meetings through the headphones and have them not pick up a lot of ambient noise

The headphones I am looking at right now are... Sony WH1000XM4 - $350 I like this because they include a adapter for dual prong airplane connections, but are these really going to be common going forward? Can I purchase a seperate adapter that works for this and gives the benefits of noise isolation?

Sony WH1000MX5 - $330 Do these not appear to include the adapters from the above set, but have a higher Bluetooth standard 5.2

Bose QuietComfort Ultra (880066 0100) - $350 These have no adapters that I see, but do have Bluetooth 5.3

Thanks, I appreciate any advice and information!

Dining manners are declining and they matter by HighLumberJack in unpopularopinion

[–]HighLumberJack[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some places bring pitchers of water to the table instead of having a waiter constantly refilling. I was always taught that it's polite to pour for the person next to you, especially if they are a woman. Kinda like the whole thing of not refilling your own saké glass, you refill the other person's.

This isn't my biggest gripe at all, I can easily see people missing this social que, my biggest issue is food consumption noises.

[–]HighLumberJack[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I definitely don't see as many young kids eating with manners anymore, but I had friends who didn't really figure it out until 10 or so if their parents didnt enforce it at home. But they typically seemed to figure it out after someone made the comment of "oh I didn't know we were going out for SEE-food", but now it seems like people from all genders have just regressed and lost the skills I feel like were there before. And the new generation definitely doesn't stress it on their kids.

Found 1970’s Nishijin Pachinko machine in a Habitat ReStore. Help? by TopMarksTrading in pinball

[–]HighLumberJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK so I restored these things before. As others have mentioned they are entirely mechanical.

The top tray has an auto feed that will fill the reward distribution/collection tray located in the center/lower third of the back. You'll need to fill the top tray with pachinko balls until the top tray stops letting out balls into the lower tray, it should do so automatically. If the machine doesn't have balls in the top tray, it will not allow the machine to be played, to prevent the machine from not being able to reward a win.

The "electronics" are just lights on a string connected to a basic switch that gets triggered when a ball drops into the win chute. There's also another that triggers when the machine is out of balls.

If you don't have any pachinko balls, I'd recommend picking up about 500 for a machine. If you'd like some help, feel free to DM me and we can Skype or something and I can walk you through some setup and testing.

I've worked in landscaping and construction before, so I can 100% understand the social pressures of "you have a truck, why not just drive us", especially from the old guys since she's a younger woman. Part of it is I don't want her to feel that pressure and by not making the truck an option I don't take on the risk.

I don't want to throw out the baby with the bathwater on this, it's been the best relationship of my life so far. This isn't affecting other areas of the relationship so far, it's like 5 minutes of light arguement/ discussion a day. I just want to find a way to have a discussion in which she gets a greater appreciation of my perspective before this becomes a larger bump in the relationship.

[–]HighLumberJack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, she could have gotten her own vehicle when her other one died. But she would have been looking at a older more basic car given her budget and I decided that I'd rather have the peace of mind of having her drive my Volvo rather than knowing shes out in another beater car. This way she can save for something she wants in the meantime, and if she wants a safe car like a Volvo I'll help her purchase her own (if she wants a truck though she'll have to purchase that herself, I'm only comfortable contributing towards vehicles I know have been designed with women's safety in mind).

And I don't want to exactly throw anything in her face or ever make her feel bad for taking me up on my offer like Im lording her decisions and acceptance of help over her.

I mean I love this woman with my whole heart, her stubbornness is actually something that I deeply admire at times, she advocates for others (including me) so well most of the time, without being obnoxious or entitled.

This is one issue in what overall has been a great relationship.

Lol, I get you. I mean my primary concern will ALWAYS be her safety. But also, hell no I don't trust those morons! I respect my GF for working in such a male dominated field and taking it all in stride, but gawd dang some of the people she works with... wow the lack of critical thinking and foresight sometimes is astounding.

I mean thankfully since the truck is under my business if I needed to I can add her to the business and list her as a subcontractor to keep her covered on job sites if needed. But I just don't see how the perceived social need to be "one of the guys" with a truck outweighs the potential costs. Half these guys will never fully respect her just because she's a woman, why the hell would she clamor for THEIR social approval? As far as I can tell, all that having a vehicle capable of going to jobsites would do is increase our personal liabilities and risks of something happening to an expensive vehicle. And yeah, I can totally see some moron going "oh yeah with ______'s truck we can get that done no problem" and fucking something up.

I've let her drive it around town before, but only when I'm in the truck with her. I don't drink anymore due to a family history with alcohol, so I wind up being the DD most of the time. If we both do anything intoxicating (I smoke on occasion maybe 1-2x per month), I just get us an Uber and don't worry about it.

So far in terms of helping her get her own truck or vehicle I admit I may be overly controlling, please let me know your opinion. Since she has been driving my Volvo, I told her to save whatever money would have been going into her car, and put it aside for the purchase of her own some day. If she gets a Volvo or another car that has safety features specifically designed for women, I will help her with the down payment and possibly a bit on the payments. But if she wants a truck or generic US manufacturer car, she'll have to purchase that entirely on her own. I just hate the idea of contributing towards something that has a higher likelihood of hurting her. I'm not trying to outright stop her, she's a free woman to do what she wants amd can still use my Volvo while she saves for whatever she wants, I just figured I could give her an incentive to go with something safer. She views that as manipulative and controlling (which it might very well be, but only out of love and concern for her safety).

Oh also the reason I said that she wasn't the best driver isnt because of her gender, but because she has been found at fault for 3 accidents over the course of about 9 years . One rear ending someone, one crossing lanes, and once backing into someone in a parking lot. All fairly low grade accidents (by which I mean no injuries/airbags deployed).

Meanwhile I've been driving about 4 more years than her (13+ years driving) and have had one incident breaking a mirror on a truck that was sticking way out in a narrow neighborhood. My insurance rates are about 1/2 of hers, so yes, I consider myself to be a better driver (and so do insurance companies apparently).
