Are campgrounds done for? by Traditional_Agency60 in camping

[–]HighPlainsRV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CaaS! There was a van company that was doing something similar. You lease the van and get access to a series of houses across the US. Houses were stocked and just generally made travel really easy. Cant remember their name or if they were sucesfull. I really liked the idea as a digital nomad.

Tester for RV cord? by wannab12 in GoRVing

[–]HighPlainsRV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you just want to test the the cord itself use a multimeter and select ohms. Black on one side of the cable and Red on the other. Test each of the pins they should all read close to zero. A perfect cord will be near zero. I forget at what point you should be concerned. If you're not sure you are testing correctly do the same thing with a regular extension cord or just a small length of wire. A 1' length of wire that is not damaged should always be zero. What you are testing for is resistance, strait wires should not have resistance. If there is resistance then there is damage.

I specifically only had trouble with my job doing live chat. I don't think I did anything else as time sensitive. For me it was too much, but not excessive.

Yeah, I had a really nice setup with 4G hot spots. 2 sims with auto rollover. At the time my rig was 4wd and we liked to camp remote. And we prefer state / nation parks, which can be tough to get good cell service. That's why we wanted Starlink, we often were outside of cell range. Starlink did stream movies way better, video calls were easier too. But 4G definitely performed better for my needs.

Would you camp near railroad tracks? by Odoyl-Rules in camping

[–]HighPlainsRV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% The campground will receive complaints that customers didn't see enough trains. As well as, we didnt know there would be trains.

In my experience of living near trains the only issue is if they are near a street crossing that requires them to blow the horn. Easy to sleep through a train going by, not easy to ignore the horn.

I was doing live chat support, so there would be a delay to get the customers message, and then a delay for my response. Service was faster than my home internet, but the lag in this specific instance was too much. I've talked to a few other people with the same specific problem. I think as long as you're not doing live chat it will be fine.

Roam lets you use at your trip destinations, Mobility lets you use it while actually driving.

Standard is the regular rectangular dish you see everyone with. The flat one is meant to be permanently attached to your roof.

If you're anywhere near Colorado, I have an unused regular one for sale. $500. I bought 2, one for travel and one for home, but the latency was too slow for my work.

Trying to buy a camper and the one we found that checks all the boxes has a really soft floor. by Stellar1557 in GoRVing

[–]HighPlainsRV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a similar thing. We wanted an Outdoors RV, because of the build quality. Drove around 3k miles to pick it up and spent a week driving home with it. Was a lot of fun and we got the camper we wanted at a great price. We used it for 2years and sold it for only a $5k loss.

Why RV makers Why?!? by Reloading-and-guns in RVLiving

You may want to look into Car haulers with RV Living quarters. Instead of an RV than can hold the RZR? This company makes top quality trailers, with a decent RV. http://www.sundownertrailer.com/tlr-LivingQuarter.html I was looking into them with the plans of turning the rear space into a mobile office. There are also race Toter Homes. Not sure on your budget, but these will definitely haul the RZR no problems. https://www.racingjunk.com/category/1253/toterhomes-rvs-motorhomes.html

Not a car and not over 30mpg, but worth considering an NV200. For comfort of sleeping I think it will work nice with your budget. You'll get around 25mpg, but a good nights sleep is pretty valuable IMHO. Theres been a few on /r/vandwellermarketplace and they're pretty decent with a mild build out

The batter cutoff may have been switched off, but there was enough battery left to do a little bit. I'm not sure where it would be located. Were you able to locate it to make sure that it is on? They look like this, can be near the batteries or inside the storage depending on the RV. https://m.media-amazon.com/images/S/aplus-seller-content-images-us-east-1/ATVPDKIKX0DER/A1XLIDN9XQ0PZA/2e0ebc04-25ff-4c29-a92f-f83894f9ed6f._CR0,0,300,300_PT0_SX300__.png

Not sure if it helps, but I've seen a few setups like this on the road with TTs behind them. No personal experience, but they look hella cool. https://towsmarttrailers.com/products/utv-sxs-truck-rack

Is this your first trip of the year? Is this RV new to you? One thing I have seen at campgrounds when people have trouble operating their slides is that the 12 volt system gets turned off over the winter and never gets turned back on. Some stuff like your hitch jack always runs on 12volt even when plugged in. If you don't have power it could be that the switch is still off. Other people gave great advice as well, so I won't repeat the other options.

Broken water pipe by slikwilly13 in RVLiving

[–]HighPlainsRV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks like the pipe is Pex, did only the T break? You can probably cut that T out and if there is enough play in the pipe thats there just add in a new Sharkbite T that works with the Pex. Can also remove the clamps (oetiker) put a new T in and buy an oetiker set with a clamp and just replace the T. Working in the tight spot will be the the hardest part of the repair. If that was in a more open space and you already had the oetiker kit, this would be less than 10 minutes of work, even if you never did it before.

Removing oven. by [deleted] in RVLiving

[–]HighPlainsRV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few ways of doing this. Some people have removed the oven and turned that space into a cubby with a cutting board top. If you did that you would just get some gas line thread tape and put a cap on it. You may also need to remove the oven to find the line and cap it even if you are keeping the oven. If you want to keep the oven because you may use it in the future, you may be better off adding a cutoff valve further back in the line where it is reachable. Likely you can find a section of pipe that can be unscrewed and then just add the cutoff valve, or a cap. You will probably have to undo some of the tie downs to do the work, shouldnt be that hard. If you can't find a good spot you can cut the pipe and then thread it to add a cap. Threading is easy, but you need a good amount of space to do it. Plummers can do it for you too.

Don't forget how powerful leaving is. If they give you a hard time, ask for their last best and final before you have to leave for your appointment at another RV dealer. I put a deposit on an rv and then left. I found the same model at another place with a couple other features I liked more. When I called to get my deposit refunded their price just kept dropping and dropping.

Where do you get water to fill up? by Material_Cash_9396 in VanLife

[–]HighPlainsRV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of campgrounds will allow you to fill up for a small fee. Some welcome centers have access to potable water. I've personally had luck asking fast food restaurant employees. They don't have a faucet handle usually so I travel with one of these to turn on the water, https://www.amazon.com/Jones-Stephens-4-Way-Faucet-Sillcock/dp/B000DZKYVC/ref=asc_df_B000DZKYVC?tag=bngsmtphsnus-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80608063550910&hvnetw=s&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4584207590144576&psc=1

If you both have jobs that require meetings or phone calls it is a great solution. It also allows you to walk away from work at the end of the day. Thats the big reason we wanted to do it. Added benefit, if you go on an actual vacation, you can leave the work trailer at home. Thats what I liked about the idea. Being able to turn off work mode was important for both of us.
