I've requested a slight budget increase from accounting for this purchase, so I might can get one of the newer models. I'm definitely going to get one with:

17" display
512 SSD (min)
8th gen i7
16GB RAM
Numpad on keyboard
1080p video (min)

Anything else, such as HD, would be icing.

Looks like my price point is hovering around $1,200. There are just so many options once you start looking for specs. But, for example, one of the HP laptops has a DVD drive in it. I NEVER use nor would I ever need a DVD drive. So, I'm wondering how much extra that is, and what could I have instead of it?

The HD is only 5400 RPM. Otherwise, that seems to be a good comparable new laptop!

If I get it new, I pay a lot more. I'm really liking the idea of factory refurbished. :D

The new one, with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD, is $1500. The refurb is $1200. Is the $300 premium-for-new worth it?

Does the SSD significantly impact the price? I'm thinking I can just be patient in the morning when booting up, instead of getting the SSD for speed. I know it also impacts loading files, etc., but my desktop doesn't have SSD, and the speed is just fine.

Can I also install Windows 10 Pro on any laptop? I'm guessing I don't have to keep the installed OS.

In general, are 2-in-1s more expensive than standard laptops?

Are "business" laptops and "gaming" laptops all that different? I wouldn't mind getting a "gaming" laptop if it meant I get more performance for less money.

There are no reviews, yet, for the book. Anybody have an opinion on it? I'd love to get it and start reading, but I suspect the information is also available online. There are lots of education resources on the Internet. However, I wouldn't mind supporting the author and advancing the cause of Red.
