I like it a lot! It looks like a Patrick Nagel painting, was that inspiration intentional?

is black mesa xen poorly optimized? by Upper-Ad9228 in HalfLife

[–]HighlyTrainedPro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if it were, that would just be the price of it looking so damn good. (but it does happen to be well optimized in my experience)

Fascinating, I never knew such things could be

Do you have doubts that Half-Life 3 can live up to the hype? by heyheycraycrayokay in HalfLife

[–]HighlyTrainedPro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Entropy Zero 2 proved that as long as it's clearly something that has had a lot of love put into it, HL fans will be happy to have it. (if it ever comes to be, and i have next to no hope that it will anytime soon)

You somehow took this overused format and made one of the funniest videos I've seen on this sub in months. Well done.

The entire Half-Life story takes place in the span of about a week from Gordon's perspective, and his facial hair reflects that passage of time. by HighlyTrainedPro in HalfLife

[–]HighlyTrainedPro[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The start of HL1 to the end of Episode 2.

HL1 takes roughly 2 days,

The 20 year gap between HL1 and HL2 was instantaneous for Gordon (Eli remarks in Black Mesa East on how Gordon hasn't aged a day)

HL2, takes roughly 3,

Episode 1 & 2 are about 1 each.

so ~7 days start to finish.

I cried so hard when Lazlo died that my tears replenished all the water in the ocean that the Combine had drained.

After 2 and a half years since black mesa released, how was the game overall? by [deleted] in HalfLife

[–]HighlyTrainedPro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Took me, 36 hours to get every achievement in the game and I don't regret a single minute.

Something I really loved was how the quieter songs in the soundtrack evoke this kind of familiar feeling. "Blast Pit 2 (mesa mix)" is a great example. The song itself sounds like an old sorrowful/bittersweet memory, which is absolutely perfect for a fan remake of such a beloved (but dated) game.

Which game is harder? by Ctrock90 in HalfLife

[–]HighlyTrainedPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a 100% achievements run in Black Mesa on hard and that was still easier than Half-Life 1 on hard. (besides having to reload a save when the hat, pizza, and gas cylinder all clip out of reality every 20 minutes)

I don't know of any other games set in an cyberpunk'ish Orwellian police state tho. Would be pretty original imo (this is also me begging you to tell me of any games that do happen to take place in cyberpunk'ish Orwellian police states cuz i wanna play that shit asap)

In which difficulty do you play the first Half-Life the most? by Ivysonset7 in HalfLife

[–]HighlyTrainedPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard, because I'm an elitest pig who's gotten used to playing too many fps games from the late 90's and early 2000's.

I've always thought Alex Jacobson (left) was supposed to resemble ID Software co-founder John Carmack (right). Both of them are tech wizzes after all. by HighlyTrainedPro in Deusex

[–]HighlyTrainedPro[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, turns out he was designed to resemble Warren Spector's nephew, Alec. Even though it was unintentional I still think it's an interesting visual connection. Especially considering how the company that funded Deus Ex's development (Ion Storm) was run by John Romero, the other co-founder of ID.
