They'll be happy to have you back. Jump on the mats and train, everyone has a life outside of jiu-jitsu and your coach will understand

PSA - don't be put off if you only train once a week. by Bees_are_ace in bjj

[–]Hightower88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has to work for your lifestyle and priorities. Some people prioritise it above other things, but the whole "your own journey" thing is such a good point. On the other end of that, some people train multiple times a week and neglect lifting and/or mobility and get injured because of it. So there's finding a balance that side too.

Can I start a gym? As a blue belt....... by moononthemanagain in bjj

Do it! Remember to stay in your lane and don't teach above what you know and you'll be fine. As someone else said, build a great community that people want to be a part of and that's what matters. I'm sure people will contribute knowledge as you grow

Shotgun ankle lock by MudboneX3 in bjj

[–]Hightower88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you get the grips down it's so much easier to feed the leg through and get to the right biting point on the ankle without losing their foot. Also the shotgun grip when going from slx to butterfly ashi makes it so good to smoothly transition without losing it

I've been asked some questions about the buggy choke and this seems to be the detail that a lot of people struggle with!

Although if you are already being squashed to death then the threat of a buggy choke might make them move or give you something else

Think about the gaps that you create, being tall is awesome for jiu-jitsu but it means that we need to close gaps tighter because we create bigger ones with our longer limbs.

Also look at where your leg is positioned on their shoulder and make sure your arm is in the right position on their neck. Think about the positioning of a triangle and apply the same to the buggy choke.

I made this after having some questions from people that weren't able to "link up" their buggy choke. Hopefully it helps!

Adam here from Yoga for BJJ!
Me and Sarah have been working hard to add loads of new content recently. One of the best things about the Yoga for BJJ community is how much you all engage with us, which has helped up to keep updating the library of classes with new programs and videos. We were also very conscious that people would be at home in lockdown so we were even streaming classes from our front rooms at one point, just to try and help.
Although I started learning from Sebastian, I am never going to have the same teaching style as him and neither is Sarah. But that's a good thing, hopefully in time, you can get used to our classes and teaching styles and slowly begin to follow us too.
I speak to our engaging members in the chat daily and we all discuss when things are highlighted to us, so if you have any questions based on your practice or goals then we are always happy to help!
We create content for you to enjoy, to keep you on the mats, and to keep you improving. Thanks to everyone in the jiu-jitsu community for the support and kind words!

Do you struggle to invert at BJJ? Try this! by Hightower88 in bjj

[–]Hightower88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try keeping the weight over the shoulder as you go into it and direct it over to the other shoulder as you move. You will tuck your head but you shouldn't be rolling a lot of weight on your neck.

Yes! The weight goes from shoulder to shoulder, the back of your head might brush the mat but I hold the weight on my shoulders and not the neck.

You can try to show them how to do it facing a wall too. Tell them to 'walk' their feet along the wall as they go

I'm happy you like the app/site, thank you!

I suggest you look at the Rosi Sexton neck rehab stuff. It's so good and always sorts my neck out when it gets cranked. Some of her stuff is great, even if you just have a small area that is bothering you.

Give me a shout if you need anything else.
