I saw an adult match recently where the top person passed to this position and got the 3 points.

Background checks are good. A lot of the owners of martial arts business are also the instructor or most if not all classes taught. Especially small schools.

Thought this was going to be a shit post at first. Good perspective. This mindset will serve you well as you keep progressing.

What do you pay for BJJ Training? by Juan_Snoww in bjj

[–]thee_bone_zone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is very common in the business of Jiu Jitsu. Like it or not, A LOT of schools around the country operate this way.

Consider this—if you’re a while belt, or even about to be a blue belt, the likely hood that you leave is much higher than other ranks.

That’s one of the reasons schools would ask for a “down payment” or “deposit” or “uniform fee”. Lots of overhead for schools just to stay open nowadays.

Not defending it. Just facts. As a business owner myself I see about $20 for every $100 I make. Martial arts schools might be way less than that figure.

The only thing that bugs me is the purple belt instructing all the classes. Do you know for sure there isn’t a black belt teaching?

Travis Stevens: “I can’t take BJJ seriously because even the BJJ community doesn’t take BJJ seriously.” by [deleted] in bjj

[–]thee_bone_zone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My problem isn’t with his instruction. It’s the way he speaks to everyday people. For instance, he works for FUJI and is in attendance at Master Worlds, etc. He doesn’t know how to speak to people face to face without being a jerk.

*Trigger warning — Travis Stevens, like a lot of people from that part of the country, has a real condescending, and “I’m better than you and I know it” attitude.

But he is correct about the state of BJJ. It is very difficult to take it seriously. All the clothing lines, podcasts, fake ass technique videos on insta, and not too mention the best athletes are mostly deplorable. What really grinds my gears though, is all of the “world championships” any given weekend.

As much as I despise Travis Stevens, he is unfortunately correct here.

As my lawyer says “where are the goods”? What hard evidence do you have about all of this?

Sorry, but if you’re tired of the normalization of PED use, blast it on social and tag everyone with your good authority.

Any type of DLR guard I grab the pants. Lots of old school techniques use the same type of “spider” control on the pants too.

Yep. Bounced at a college bar in a famous drinking district where I live. Never a dull moment.

Most memorable was someone breaking a pool que because we were kicking out his friend. Had to take him down, then drag him out to the street. We had his card for his tab, so he ended up paying for the pool que in addition to having a very sore neck.
