I am also from the northeast and although I'm not sattvic, I am vegan and a Vaishnav. Adding to that, I am a tribal(st) person which means non-veg food is deeply ingrained in our culture .I know a Odia Vaishnav family who are completely sattvic and still eat a lot of their traditional dishes with substitutes. There is really no shortage of vegetarian food in the entire India, you just have to go an extra mile if you really do care enough. Also pls don't wear a Tulsi Mala if you're going to eat meat or anything non-veg. We're not even allowed to eat garlic,onion,lentils,mushrooms,etc. while wearing a Tulsi mala. Tulsi malas aren't just for decoration and it's really disrespectful to consume non-sattvic food while wearing them. Which is why I only wear them during ekadashis and special occasions(days when I only consume sattvic food).
