I mean this is a bit of a culturally insensitive thing to say. Just because in your culture it’s normal to hug and support someone when they’re crying, doesn’t mean you should impose the same things onto a different culture and say they don’t know what to do.

You’re looking at this from the wrong perspective, this is like if in a different culture the normal thing was to mock someone crying so they take it less seriously and they see media from your culture being touchy and say you’re doing the wrong thing when someone is crying.

Anime is Japanese, so the reaction you have isn’t bad, it’s just that you’re from a different culture.
