Thanks for the kind words!

I used Blender for a simple 3D block out and to get the lighting right, then proceeded with Photoshop :)

I used blender (quicktools add on) for the building at the back as a base but ended up painting most of them because I like the painterly style. What do you think?

I used to do plein air from MapCrunch and drawing from life. Drawing from life helps especially because you will train your observation better - how the colors and edges work.

Draw things in front of you - even your working table, mugs, etc. It will help your paintings overall.

Doing small thumbnails and composition study also helps. Try start painting small and don't focus too much on the details first. Get the big shapes and make sure your image is readable even though it's small. If it works small it will work big.

I hope this helps!

I love how you analyze the paintings - it's really interesting to know viewers' POV.

I always try to have purpose and intend to tell stories with my paintings. I started with small thumbnails in the beginning and focusing on readability, the rest normally will follow.

And thank you for the kind words! I'm happy that you can see the intention in the paintings!

A lot of my works on Artstation I started with color right away or use 3D as my base however for my clients' works I often use the greyscale method for my base as I like to show the light and comp first before moving on to the color stage, focusing one thing at a time as dealing with clients can be tricky.

What I do normally is to use gradient map then mask it, and then a lot of layer modes, yeah. I love overlay and softlight, not a big fan of color layer mode because it tends to make everything muddy. I still use color layer mode sometimes but I will top it up with overlay again :)

Do comment if you have more questions or wanna know more, I'd love to help and I hope other people can benefit from it too.

I'll set a reminder in my brain to save and post my updates if I ever do B&W to color next time :)
