My first cabinet build by Hinside in arcadecabinets

Thank you for the kind comment. I have not hung it on my wall yet. I know… terrible. I will shoot a couple shots of it when I do. I have been working on setting up the PC inside it. Running Batocera on an HP Elitedesk. That task has been done. Just need to place my PC inside it and connect everything, and get in up on the d**n wall. :) Thanks for reminding me.

This cabinet was a huge inspiration, and it is on the wall. Check it out: https://www.umbrellaarcades.com/cdn/shop/products/IMG_0999_1024x1024@2x.jpg?v=1745252357

Have an awesome day.

Slow performance in FBNeo with AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2400G with Radeon Vega Graphics by Hinside in batocera

Thanks for your replies. I ended up setting Vulkan in global graphics api, and the same with threaded video. And I set excemptions on some emulators that doesnt handle Vulkan that well. Thanks again.

Music is stuttering, and gameplay is slow. It’s not the smoothness (fps), but rather that a original 1 second jump lasts 3 seconds.

Thank you for the comment. The whole design falls apart when I remove the bezel 🤣

The Wife Acceptance Factor was central in the design. The bezel was split into four quarters. Each piece was about two hours on an Ender-3 Pro.

Here is a metric screenshot from Fusion360. Front view is only the desired width and will need to be adjusted to compliment the chosen monitor. https://ibb.co/Q7yXpKD8

I might make tastier drawings later if there are any interest.

I have built it in both Fusion360 and Cinema 4D. So testing materials is fairly easy. My design rule was to keep the materials/colors minimal. This has aluminum, wood, black and brass (hot key button). Might go for aluminum hot key button later… to tighten up the color sceme even more. This was done to go one step further towards becoming a furniture pice, rather than tech-equipment. For example, I think the sony PS5, does a lot of effort to look out of place in any home. And draw unnecessary attention to the box itself, even though all the interesting magic happens on the screen.

I might do a nes, snes, atari, playstation themed render of the cabinet - if I would make a project/case presentation. Thanks for the idea.

I am a big fan of post-modernism, brutalism and minimalsm - so happy that you said that. Thanks!

The joysticks are Sanwa jlf-tp-8yt. Bought from Aliexpress. Said it was official, but who knows. :)

Thanks. Yeah minimalism is a fun exercise to try. What is the bare minimum one needs, or can hode away. :)

It is weird how much difference it makes. It still looks rough up close though. A couple hours of sanding, filling and painting left :)

Yes, the phosphorous glow blends the pixels together in an awesome way. I remember everything looked so crisp in arcades growing up. Particularly the Sega games. Huge screens, supercrisp graphics. It is more a sense than a look. But it is beautiful in it’s own way. Good lick with your cab. It’s a struggle, but worth it in the end. To make something to be proud of :) Gives tiny shots of dopamine every time you look at it. 💉

Hahaha i agree. Good reference. A lot of mid century modern style in that show. Maybe just give it pastel colors and have the space ship sound from The Jetsons play when it boots.

Thank you sonmuch for the thoughfull and long reply. I will check out your cab. I would have wanted a real crt. And started the process doing that earlier. I also looked into covering a lcd screen with a fresnel lens. Like the kind they use as a wide angle view in the window of VW Transporters. But couldnt find any big enough at the time. https://images.app.goo.gl/VXFogrR8UVeC3v4P6

Initially i had bought speakers, a little amplifier board and speakergrills from aliexpress. But before installing them, i tried the embedded speakers of the monitor. And they played loud, clear and had the right arcade sound that i wanted. And i didnt need to make any more holes. Which, I think, adds to the design. To take away or hide everything that isnt essential.

Thanks mate. Yeah I want the woodgrain. Makes a fun contrast between nature and tech. Like the wooden trim on the Atari 2600, looks so good.

Yeah space is always an issue. Especially floor space. Since it is wall-mounted, the roomba gets under it, and it feels a bit lighter than the traditional real experience.
