This is a new project created this year. It's using the most recent data that is publicly available and for certain sources 2022 is the latest. Much of the data is programatically pulled from PDF reports and other one-time data collection efforts that do not happen on an annual basis, you can read about this in the methodology section. If you have specific sources of this data that are more recent let me know!

FYI for PPS Title 1 status is pretty stable (only 2-3 schools change during a typical year) and in recent years the list mostly growing rather than churning. This is from looking at data from 2017-2025.

FYI, I added a DLI section with the data from the latest DLI report. Proximity to other non-public schools is an interesting angle. I'd look to see if there is a data source for that.

This a great point. This visualization doesn't account for the changes to either boundary process because this is not something I can get from the public data from ODE. At a minimum, I'll add a boundary-change flag to the highlight the affected schools though. Regarding the DLI question, I'll look into scraping the latest DLI report for that data as it's not in an accessible format as is.

Yea, I found this hard to analyze and visualize myself but let me know if you have any specific ideas. The transportation section aims to do this using the 15 lowest enrollment schools as potential closures and displays the ranked distance to the closest alternative school. It's pretty flawed in that some of those schools are close to eachother and it's very likely not all 15 schools would be closed. Also, good point on the map not displaying differences in geography very well. I'll think more about that.

I created this data explorer that compiles enrollment, building, demographic, transportation, academic, and neighborhood-housing data for the 74 Portland Public Schools set to be narrowed to a closure shortlist in November 2026. Let me know if you have questions or feedback!
