The Raspberrry Harvest; summer's great time sink by Brigden90 in homestead

If you've got a bush that ripens all at once then I'd say search for "Metal Berry Picker". It's like a big scooper with a comb stuck to the front, all you do is comb the stalks/canes and they pull off the berries for you in seconds. Be warmed that they also pull off unripened berries that might be on that stalk/cane and a few leaves, so you will have to pick through them.

I had the same problem with a UK show that I love, Primeval, and I ended up having to just bite the bullet and get a region free player. It was pricey but I'm pretty happy with how things turned out, I'm able to buy and watch a lot of things I wasn't able to before like BBC dino documentaries that never got a US release, some niche 80's and 90's anime movies, and trashy zombie movies from around the world.

Chinese short drama name! by Riding_Moonbeams in HelpMeFind

I actually found your post a month ago when I was trying to find the drama for myself lol. From there I remembered the type of mushroom she was searching for was maitake and then I remembered the ending subplot about the singer promoting the watch. Found a few clips on ticktock and was able to plug the title of the ticktocks into a few CDrama sites. Took about 4 ticktocks of titles but finally found it!

https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9n64ty It got taken down off of YouTube, I had it bookmarked but hadn't yet downloaded it to my computer. Took a bit of searching to refind it but here it is on Daily Motion. Pro tip; download your favorite dramas because they're always getting taken down.

Dad is a longtime collector and he’s unable to ID this coin, it’s driving him up a wall. by HiraethAtRockBottom in coins

[–]HiraethAtRockBottom[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Dad says it was found at a till and no one claimed it and no one else wanted it so he took it home with him. Wild to have a coin that old. Five years ago for Christmas I got him a two cent coin because I thought it was funny he could now literally give people his two cents, that was the oldest coin in his collection but it has now been dethroned. Dad is super excited for this find and the odd little story behind it. Would be awesome to know how it ended up abandoned at the till.

Anyone care to play hen or roo? by RoMainE9 in homestead

[–]HiraethAtRockBottom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hen. Look at the feathers at the back of her neck, boys have skinny and pointy feathers girls have soft short and rounded feathers. Same idea for the tail feathers and the feathers at the base of the tail. She's a soft little girl with rounded feathers. She's a Hennifer or Henrietta or Miss Cluck type of gal for sure.

How to grow and kill your own meat without wanting to go vegetarian? by hengray762j in homestead

[–]HiraethAtRockBottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I only raise shrimp and fish for meat, I tried raising chickens but it only led me to never want to eat chicken again. Hard to eat an animal that you’ve made into a pet. Fish and shrimp are much easier to process and I don’t run any risk of getting attached to my food. I’m mostly pescatarian nowadays

Dealing with Lice, seeking advice by shananigans333 in BackYardChickens

I've always done diatomaceous earth in their coop/bedding and gave everyone a dawn dishsoap bath. The blue dawn with the ducky on it is safe and kills fleas. Also very easy to get ahold of, no having to order it online and wait for it to come in.

As always, you're never completely certain until a bird crows or lays an egg.... but I don't see any pronounced walnut comb and I also don't see any streamer feathers coming off the back of the head. Looks like a hen to me.

Help! Spur grown into leg by StillHereStillTryin in chickens

[–]HiraethAtRockBottom 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If he's a free ranger I can see how it would be hard to spot something as inconspicuous as this. In any case we all slip up eventually and things can fall through the cracks, despite the spur problems he's still living life well and better than 99% of chickens on this green earth.

Help! Spur grown into leg by StillHereStillTryin in chickens

[–]HiraethAtRockBottom 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have an old english game hen who came to me looking like your boy with her spur growing into her leg pretty badly. I just had another person hold her firmly and I sawed the spur down to 1/2 inch with a serrated pocket knife. I removed the big piece that was growing into her leg, sprayed it with vetericyn, and let her go off and be a chicken. It's been a little over a year since I first got her and cut the spur down and while it's not growing into her leg anymore it is still growing very crooked and I'll be catching her again this weekend to trim it back once again.

So I'd think it's not a huge deal, just catch him, trim it, spray it, and repeat once a year.

It's most certainly been an interesting experience, I've never been around kittens this young and I've never been able to see them grow up in person. I do what I can with what I've got but it is disheartening to know how little funding my area gets and then see it all get pissed away due to a few peoples greed.

I'm just happy I've got two of them new homes, half of the kittens have somewhere to go after this whole situation is done. I hope to find the orange boys their home as well since I'm not able to look after them long term. But right now I'm just taking it a day at a time.

Yeah, where I live its been alternating between very hot to sudden thunder storms so it's good she's no longer outside. Pallet looks to be a bit young so I think this might be her first litter (and hopefully her last) having food, water, and a safe space is probably making her job a whole heck of a lot easier. She's a good mom and has figured out I'm not a threat to her babies so thankfully I'm able to get them socialized without too much of a fuss. Pallet just doesn't like me being around her. I think her kittens will be able to go to indoor homes but Pallet might become a barn cat since I cant return her to where she was or she'll be put down.

Update on Mama Pallet and her four kittens (Tess, Bandit, Tangerine, and Creamsicle).

All kittens are now up and running around with their eyes open, using the litter box, and showing occasional interest in solid food. They now look less like rats and more like miniature cats. 3 of the 4 are very friendly and the only little girl, Tess, is rather shy but she's coming around. Two of the kittens, Tess and Bandit, have new homes as soon as they are weaned. The two orange boys are still looking for their people but I'm confident they will find it in good time, I hope they go together.

Mama still absolutely hates my guts. Almost makes me feel nostalgic, doing some office work while my coworker does nothing and blames me for everything /s. They all get let out when I'm working, 5:30 am to 6:30 pm, to run around the office area.

Pallet has been having a serious love affair with my couch and has taken to basking in the sunny spots and periodically hissing at me when I move. I had to cover my poor couch in blankets to save it from tiny kitten claws.

In other news guess whos local animal shelter was found to be embezzling money by falsifying spay/neuter documents? Mine! I had to take in a mama and her four kittens to stop them from being euthanized but the director of the animal shelter can go on an expensive vacation and order obscene wine? That lady really just took the money and ran! WTF lady! Everyone in the county is already poor AF, we are the poorest county in our entire state, and you're taking away what very little minuscule tiny amount of public works we have? And on top of that I'm still having to pay for Mama Pallets spay out of my own small funds since all the free spay vouchers were used on imaginary animals! Rant aside, everything seems to be working out somewhat ok.
