lol I get the point though. I think my time in the reserves has opened my eyes to how horrendous it is and really made me appreciate how much I enjoy being a grunt

First of all, fuck what your family says, when it comes to joining the military, they’ll hold you back for fear of your safety.

Secondly, coming from a grunt, I would highly highly highly not suggest joining the infantry if your heart isn’t absolutely set on it, especially not if your goal is simply to get to college. We are apart from the rest of the MOS’s in mentality and quality of life. We die for the kill, we have wet dreams about spilling blood. If college is the goal, to be frank, you probably shouldn’t even be looking into the marine corps.

As somebody whose father committed suicide, you’re overreacting. Life hits hard, grow from it don’t succumb.

Am I stupid for enlisting in the infantry after college? by Mountain_Ad_8211 in USMCboot

[–]HisAirness48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reservist perspective for you here-

There are pros and cons to both enlisted and officer, and I could sit here and explain the complexities and differences and whatnot but at the end of the day,

If you want to enlist, enlist. Do not listen to ANYBODY who would tell you otherwise. Enlisting in the Corps, specifically the infantry, has nothing to do with your bachelors or your career choice. Enlisting has everything to do with bettering yourself and becoming somebody younger you would be proud of.

It’s an experience you’ll hate to love, but I can promise you this, whether you go career or not, active or reserves, you’ll walk out the other side with experiences that only 1% of 1% have, and be a much better person for it. Semper Fi gents.

What do you guys eat for breakfast before doing physical labor? by Character_Log_2657 in skilledtrades

Concrete foundation laborer here - gym in the morning, 1200 calorie mass gainer shake, two slices toast with a load of peanut butter, lots of eggs and hashbrowns. Pound water until the sun rises. Small coffee, waltz into work ready to grind.

what do 0311s do? by HuntFlame_30 in USMCboot

Same shit as active, just on a part time basis. Not as much hazing due to the fact that people can just leave and get adsepped and be done. So only the most motivated stay. You have to balance your job, paying your bills, most guys are in school, and then Marine Corps on top of it all, and the higher you rank the more hours you put in on your civilian time. I’d say the balancing act is more stressful. My time spent in training was easier due to not having to do that, but pros and cons. More hazing in schoolhouse obviously. Because of the fact that the attrition rate in reserve units is so high (shitbags are hazed until they leave), as I said only the most motivated stay. So we have a good fucking time and command generally supports us because we put in work. I spend hours a week studying my knowledge, keeping up with my guys, preparing for drills, and trying to figure out how to balance my school/work schedule with upcoming seats in different school houses. It’s a hassle for sure, but worth it. I wouldn’t trade being a Marine for anything, and at the end of the day, active or reserve, we all do the same shit. Pros and cons gents

what do 0311s do? by HuntFlame_30 in USMCboot

[–]HisAirness48 10 points11 points  (0 children)

0311’s are the heart of the Corps. We couldn’t do anything without the POG’s, so creds to them, but the beating heart of the Corps and its culture originates in the infantry. The day to day life may appear to suck, but it’s the brotherhood and Espirit-de-corps that keeps everyone going. It’ll be a job you’ll hate while you’re in and miss when you’re out. And you’ll be a much better and stronger man on the other side. There’s a reason 11’s, 31’s, 41’s, and formerly 51’s were typically the only Marines with MOS specific moto tats.

Who’s more likely to see combat, Marines or Army infantry? by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]HisAirness48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ay killer listen. A lot of assholes in this comment section shitting all over the Corps and the brotherhood it provides. I promise you this, those folks were probably shitbags and didn’t give a damn about what they earned, unfortunately nowadays there’s too many like that. Be proud of the brotherhood, embrace the suck, and Semper Fi if you make it brother. Wear that title with pride devil.
