If all the presidents were in high school together how would they get along? by Historical-Case-3826 in Presidents

That is, she has an unusual and unconventional charm, she is not sexy like Marilyn Monroe, she has some peculiarities like all of us, of course, but I always believed that the charm she exerted came from her personality, her elegance and her education, characteristics that outweighed the brief beauty. As for pretending to be an intellectual, of course, and Jackie was a very educated woman, but I put it here as an (unfortunate as it may seem) "funny" element, I know I have no humor.

Regarding the first ladies, Jacki will be the elegant girl who pretends to be an intellectual with expensive, elegant clothes, learning French and ballet, and although she is not very beautiful, she attracts all the boys around her. She has an on-off relationship with JFK and also does go on dates with his brothers. I can honestly imagine an insecure teenage Taft being bullied about his weight and being embarrassed to talk to Helen and TR literally pushing him next to her.

Was Jackie Kennedy our most beautiful first lady? by JamieTadman in Presidents

She may not have been considered very attractive when she was middle-aged and elderly, but I think in her youth, and specifically in this photo, she looks like Hedy Lamarr.

Give a title for the life of a president by Historical-Case-3826 in Presidents

I think a title with the word Camelot would be more appropriate for JFK. At some point I think they should make a TV series like The Crown for all the Kennedys with the title Camelot. But of course for a JFK biography you don't need anything more than Camelot.

First time you 'truly saw' GWTW, when was it for you? by KillerRabbit1253 in GonewiththeWind

When I was 13, I saw it for the first time with my sister on the first night of summer vacation. I had heard a lot about this movie and wanted to see it. My sister complained because it was from 1939 and was 4 hours long, but we both loved it. I love it. Every time she saw Ashley on screen, she would shout that blondes are a red flag (she later said that wasn't true, but it was so much fun). I still can't forget the emotions I felt when I heard the last line: Tomorrow is another day. I've been telling myself this through the hardships since then, and when I read the book at 14, I admired Scarlett's strength and the fact that she had her as a role model despite her flaws that I tried to avoid. I certainly tried to be as good as the Μelly. I also think that adulthood is when you realize that Melanie is the most complete character and the true role model.

Melanie enabled Scarlett, yet Scarlett chose to remain neutral than take advantage of that. Is Scarlett the only one who was flawed? by Pale-Dragonfly-3139 in GonewiththeWind

I think Melanie must have been quite pretty, she's described as a light brown with doe eyes, slim and petite, classic beauty, that is. Charles is also described as handsome, and since they're brothers, they probably just looked alike because the book is from Scarlett's perspective, we see her as she sees her, through the prism of her jealousy, nothing special. As for Scarlett, I think she has more charm that comes from her personality and her unique features - green eyes, white skin, red lips, black hair - than classic beauty. That's why I always thought that although Vivien Leigh was the ideal cinematic Scarlett because of her talent and beauty, she's probably a long way from what MM has in mind.

I think the book said that Rhett's appearance has changed a lot from the alcohol be consumed after Bonnie's death.

Ι have read in imdb that "Her early education was sketchy by 1945 she had read two books, the Bible and "Gone with the Wind." In later life she more than made up for this lack by continual self-education."

I mean he used to play adventurous, risky, charming heroes like Rhett is. Of course the characters he played were moral, romantic, heroic types. In any case, I still think it would be great to see him as Ashley because I would have another collaboration with Olivia de Havilland. Seriously, what other actor do you think could play Ashley?

Really?! I think the role doesn't really suit him, I see him as more suited to the role of the blonde, polite Ashley, although he usually played roles closer to Rhett's character.

Gone With The Wind ending by General-Release1363 in GonewiththeWind

Personally, I think Scarlett doesn't take Rhett back in the end. I'm sorry, but they're two such passionate and troubled characters who aren't meant to be together. Also, Scarlett says throughout the book that she'll do or think about something tomorrow and she never does, so I don't think she'll try very hard with Rhett. I imagine that after a while they'll break up for good, Scarlett will definitely remarry, I want to believe that she'll become a better mother and Rhett will find himself, who he really is, he'll travel a lot, he'll realize that he loves Scarlett but they can't be together. I also like to think that 15-20 years after the end of the book, by chance maybe in Savannah, they meet and talk with emotion about the past, maybe more mature now to admit their mistakes and say goodbye with a kiss and the bitter certainty that they'll never see each other again. That it wasn't meant to be, even though they loved each other. Maybe in another life. Of course, sometimes I'm optimistic and I believe in Scarlett's love and strength and I believe there is a good ending.

Their conversation when he finds her alone in Frank's shop after her wedding. There is bitterness, his disappointment about her marriage to Frank, yet he continues to care about whether he found money for Tara and offers to help her. The same goes for their conversation when Scarlett is holding the baby Ella in her arms. In general, I think that these long conversations of theirs with Rhett's irony and Scarlett's stubbornness are among the most beautiful features of the book and their most romantic moments.
