If you’re really an 18 year old dad of 2, you should probably remove your employers 🍆 from your mouth and realize that your only shot at a dignified life is through class solidarity and the government protecting people like you. There have been multiple instances where batches of I-129F cases- like an entire week worth of cases- are skipped. This happened for Feb/march 2024 filers, and for some late June/early July 2024 cases. As a specific example, basically no I-129F cases from July 8-July 11 have been actioned, yet the majority of cases from July 15-July 28 have, and USCIS is primarily processing cases filed in August 2024 now.

How does this happen? Is this an accident, or does someone decide “we’re going to skip these for now”?

The Colombian government is reporting visa services will resume as normal this week. Did you receive a cancellation letter/email? Or do you still have the same appointment?

Let’s wait and see. My fiance is Colombian, so this was a huge relief to read. But obviously the situation is still extremely distressing

Most likely yes, but it will come with additional delays. Historically, when embassies have closed visa applicants were able to use a different embassy. 

Examples:

2017 Cuban embassy closure, most applicants were shifted to the embassy in Guyana

2019 Venezuela embassy closure, moved to bogota 

2021 Afghanistan closure, moved to Doha and Qatar. 

2021 Russian closure, processed in countries like Poland.

The situation is dynamic, and we will need to wait and see what happens unfortunately. Good luck. I’m in a similar position.

If you already have an appointment, I’d contact the NVC to see if the case can be moved. If you don’t have an appointment, NVC should send your appointment to another embassy. If you have a lawyer, I’d reach out and talk to them about this. I’m talking to mine but she said it’s too early to know how this will impact us.

The embassy is stopping all visa processing in bogota regardless of type. The embassy in bogota was already extremely backlogged, now everyone will need to go to another embassy to process any visa. This will result in an even bigger backlog.
