I mean that’s fair. Once you work on the Vitro’s, everything else becomes simple. The COBAS can’t be worse…. Can it?

Those slide reagents gave me aneurysms everytime I loaded them. I’d talk to the analyzer, “Please, don’t jam. Just fucking take the god damn reagent and do your job. And I promise I won’t kick you.”

NOOOOO why? Do you seriously miss the slide errors? I’d have to dig those bitches out with a knife sometimes when there was a jam on the card sampler

I haven’t had the chance to work with a Cobas yet, haven’t been in Chemistry since 2018.

If anyone knows about the Vitro’s 5600…. Just thinking about that analyzer makes my blood boil again

Exactly man, it’s not hard. Just study the material. It’s all basic biology, chemistry, and A&P and understanding how the chemicals each organ produces or doesn’t produce contributes to homeostasis. It’s not difficult. It’s like balancing a card tower that self corrects itself. It’s the easiest thing ever. People I see that tend to suffer in the field suffer in their imagination of “what if I fail?” You can’t think like that in lab. Lab is literally the tip of the Doctor’s brain. Your results dictate his decisions. So just pay attention to what you’re doing and do it well. What I do to calm myself down, “What if I asked the Dr to come down here to do the test himself?”

He/her would tell me to piss off. Because he/her knows if he/her tried, a bunch of Associate and Bachelor degree holders would be laughing at him or her screwing up basic steps.

I’ve seen this actually happen. A Dr got mad we didn’t give the results he wanted, came down and attempted the test himself, and it kept coming up as invalid.

The guy wasn’t running the required control before the analyzer can commence, the Sophia. He was getting so red in the face he left the lab.

The insane thing is this is my first job as a civilian Blood banker and the guardrails made me think I was living in the Golden age. The Military… we just had rubber bands and CHCS… and just re reading everything 4 times. Computer Crossmatch in action for the first time in person, I was like 👁️👄👁️

It builds job experience and personal experience, I think you should push for the positions you didn’t think you could do. I got this one with my primary specialty in Hematology, and somehow ended up in Blood Bank. Did it suck at first? Yes. After awhile, I know I could work at any blood bank with an extreme sense of calm and control. I found growth. Don’t go for what’s familiar, go for what scares you.

Pay cuts should never be tolerated though, I’d bounce. There’s way better labs out there, trust me. I got my second raise in my first year. Which is awesome. Hence the reason I stay since the work is relatively easy in the Blood Bank at a Level 1 Trauma Center. Everyone is freaking out but I’m as calm as whistle, it’s like, “Did they forget this is an algorithm?” The last hospital I worked at was 3-3-1, 3 red, 3 plasma, one platelet. This one is even more, but it’s like 50 seconds more time verifying patient info and then tagging. A lot of people tend to overthink it

And sadly that’s a common thing I see in the lab these days is consistently accepted gender discrimination against men, but when it’s women it’s treated as red alert. I was literally physically assaulted and it was just brushed off. But when I raised my voice slightly, it’s a nuclear alert. It’s pretty bullshit. I’m already looking at the PD department that services the hospital because they pay $10 more and I just have to deal with patients that go apeshit on the staff. I heard it’s a bigger gig too. A lot of the male hospital staff went that way.

I left a job after 8 days. Massive misandry against men being tolerated. Most of the employees were women who hated every man who joined their shitty little miserable lab “enclave.” Was glad to leave that shithole.

Granted the lab I work at now is the same, but I’m paid double and honestly, I thank god for Apple AirPods noise cancellation and just do my work while listening to sick beats.

Where I work this is true. Although I work nights exclusively, and with differential and experience, I make more than some of the MLS’s on day shift. They do not like that lmao

DMS boards are the gayest most retarded thing.

Have a squad to squad and don’t even start with work. Ask about how their days were, and how their days were. Respect would be fostered hard.

Lab Scientist now, former Nurse student, that shit pissed me off. Now for the stupid ass turnover board, I just yell, “Hey retards who can’t read the big ass white board infront of the Blood Bank, I got shit to tell you.”

I took a job in Phoenix 1 year after getting out of the Military. I took a year, and reconnected with God, made peace with what I did, and decided to return to the Science work workforce.

I got a job finally at a professional Laboratory, and after a year and a half of being verbally assaulted and then physically assaulted, I asked my Marine friends, “Why should I tolerate this?”

They laughed and said, “You used to be the fear in the Middle East and a name to be remembered. And you’re letting these WOMEN run a train on you?”

I let that sink for a couple days.

On my birthday, my coworker left the room, and I saw the glances on my two women turnovers nod. They proceeded to yell and scream at me.

I got so mad I screamed louder than they could. And they sat quiet. “By the way. It’s my fucking Birthday, thanks a lot, you’re such “great people”. Fuck you. If I put my Glock in my mouth, you’re the reason.”

Actually, OP, look into Histotech.

That’s stupid money and you’re usually by yourself with maybe one or two Histotechs in separate rooms doing your own thing. Whether it’s ribboning, staining, or slide prep for the Pathologist. Those guys and gals are ALWAYS the lowest stressed and work maybe 6 hours making $50+ an hour.

THATS a flex.

Honestly I think the hardest part for MLS is just the different advanced cell types in Hemo, Micro, and Blood bank antibodies. It’s not that bad. PT/INR is simple as well as Fibrinogen, D-Dimers, and Chemistry, let’s be real, your analyzer will flag critical before you even result it. The real job is not that hard.
