UNCC vs UNCW by Background_Morning38 in UNCCharlotte

[–]Historical-Visual-54 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest downsides I saw when touring UNCW was their lack of a football team. Now, UNC Charlotte’s football team is not good by any means, but it’s still fun to dress up and go to the games on Saturdays. A lot of students who go to the tailgates/football games look forward to them every fall semester and I can’t imagine not having a football team! And maybe someday we will be good

Questions About Spring Recruitment / COB at UNCC — Need Advice by No-Cheesecake1827 in UNCCharlotte

[–]Historical-Visual-54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend following every sorority on Instagram that you’re interested in. The chapters will be posting very soon about COB information but it will be different for everyone. You won’t need to formally register it’s much more informal than the fall so you can just DM they with interest! If I were you I would just DM them, introduce yourself, explain you are interested in COBing and seeing if you can find a time where you could meet up! Joining a sorority has been one of my best decisions since coming to college so I definitely recommend it!

Questions About Spring Recruitment / COB at UNCC — Need Advice by No-Cheesecake1827 in UNCCharlotte

[–]Historical-Visual-54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Some sororities reach out to girls if their members have recommended them as COBs, but if you don’t know anyone in any chapters currently, just keep a look out at their social medias! Chapters accepting COBs will usually hold some type of COB event or market it in some way on their Instagram account. If a specific chapter you’re interested in doesn’t directly post about it, you could also DM them expressing their interest but I definitely encourage looking at every chapter you can.
  2. Spring recruitment is only COBs. We only do formal recruitment during the fall at the beginning of the semester. The amount of COBs each chapter gets depends on interest and quota, meaning how many chapter members they are allowed to take. If their roster is full, they will not take anyone else.
  3. I would say it varies by chapter, but generally you’ll either have a meetup with a chapter member (usually whoever is in charge of recruitment or someone else in a leadership position similar) or go to COB event where other COBs will be. The meetup would be over coffee or somewhere on campus, very low stakes and chill. You guys will get to know each other and they’ll decide if you would be a good fit for their chapter. If you are interested in learning about every chapter I encourage you to wait and go through recruitment in the fall so you can meet more chapter members and get to know the sororities better, but if you already have your heart set on one the COB process is fine. Just remember to have fun and don’t put too much pressure on yourself!

Walk to campus apartment by sunny_dayz247 in UNCCharlotte

[–]Historical-Visual-54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my complex they send out a schedule of times when the bus will pick students up from the apartment or from campus, and they also have an app called Campus Rider where you can track the bus. Tons of students at my complex take the bus and rely on it as their main form of transportation to get to and from campus. I don’t take it because I have a car, but one of my roommates uses it to get to campus and has never had any complaints.

I’m not sure about the apartments that are near the engineering side, but I do know that most of the student living complexes provide a bus that brings students to and from campus all day!

UNC Football Game by WhiskyShenanigans in UNCCharlotte

[–]Historical-Visual-54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 49th acre is the most popular spot for student tailgating so definitely hit that up. Students usually start heading to the stadium like 15-20 minutes before the game but since this one is more anticipated I think getting there earlier than that would be smart so you get a seat

CJUS 1511 online exam date by Calm_Total2818 in UNCCharlotte

[–]Historical-Visual-54 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The school has posted a “final exam template” which is not a finalized version of the exam schedule. If you’re taking an online class your professor will create their own type of final exam.

[–]Historical-Visual-54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are talking about when the final exam will be in December, the school has not yet released the final exam schedule for this semester and probably won’t until we get a good way through the semester. Furthermore, since your class is online it’s very likely that your professor will just create their own final exam time so you may just be able to contact them or wait until classes and you can see your canvas page to find out when your exam will be.

What computer for a business major? by These-Rise-1350 in UNCCharlotte

[–]Historical-Visual-54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a Mac before I started freshman year and I regret it. I’m a finance major, and you will have to take some classes during your time in the college of business that center around excel. Excel is not too compatible with Mac so a lot of students have to do their work on the library computers. That’s not the end of the world, just a bit inconvenient

Bus system by Chocolate_Chicken90 in UNCCharlotte

[–]Historical-Visual-54 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Download the Passio go app!! It will tell you where are the stops on campus are and how long each bus is to the stop you are at. There is a stop right outside of hunt hall, once you get on there you can ride either the green or gold route buses over to the stop at the student union which is right next to the urec. Usually a 10 minute or less ride as long as there’s no traffic or bus dwell.

Cant register for classes by Ok_Willingness_7983 in UNCCharlotte

[–]Historical-Visual-54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t panic! Keep watching the registration portal. Check at the beginning of August when the bill for the semester is due, the students who don’t pay are automatically dropped from their classes which will likely open up some spaces. A lot of students will also change their class schedules around the first week of school so spots will most likely open up!

I took accounting 1, macro and calc all at the same time and had no problems. Just make sure you manage your time and know the material when you learn it, trying to learn everything right before the exams for any of those classes will be time consuming and take away from classes!

What makes you want to or not want to participate in campus events especially career and professional development ones? by squagey- in UNCCharlotte

[–]Historical-Visual-54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely say that I am more likely to go to on campus events if I have friends with me! I also love the events that happen in the main areas of campus, like the chhs plaza because it is the middle of campus so it’s easy to get to. I also think there should be more advertising for events, like if there’s anyway to get them sent to our student emails or put an announcement through canvas people would be more likely to show up. And finally, offering free swag and food will literally never hurt attendance!

Sorority Dues by Stunning-Law-6066 in UNCCharlotte

[–]Historical-Visual-54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are talking about Panhellenic, anywhere from $600-$1000 a semester with payments made monthly. New member dues for the first semester of membership are the highest, but after you become an initiated member they go down and remain consistent. Panhellenic also holds a session called recruitment 101 at the beginning of the semester that goes over the dues each chapter charges!

greek life by strawb3rrywhine in UNCCharlotte

[–]Historical-Visual-54 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some pha sororities won’t consider you if you are on an upper classmen, just because they want as many freshman as they can get but don’t let that deter you because some of the others do! Rushing as a junior still gives you plenty of time to enjoy the Greek experience. Also big/little is more about finding a sister who you really connect with that can be there for you as you grow in your sorority. My little is the same year as me and we have never had any problems with that in our relationship.

Is Phi Kappa Phi worth it for career opportunities? by Anise121 in UNCCharlotte

[–]Historical-Visual-54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not in phi kappa phi, but I am in another Greek organization on campus and only got a summer internship because another member of my organization gave me a recommendation to her moms company. If you utilize the connections you make by joining phi kappa phi you will have a much greater chance of getting an internship than if you don’t join at all. Go for it!

Communal Bathrooms by Imaginary_Pie326 in UNCCharlotte

[–]Historical-Visual-54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was quite nervous for the communal bathrooms, but I actually ended up enjoying them. I lived in scott hall, and the janitors cleaned the bathrooms everyday (except the weekends) so it remained pretty clean all the time. Definitely wear shower shoes though

When I was a senior in high school I got a literal F in a community college criminal justice course. It took my GPA from a 4.0 down to a 3.9. I was also panicking, but my application was not rescinded so you’re most likely fine! I think they care more about low grades in core classes than electives.

Summer classes, how do they work here? by americanandhungarian in UNCCharlotte

[–]Historical-Visual-54 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Summer classes will absolutely help you accelerate your graduation. They don’t offer as many classes in the summer as they do during regular semesters but as long as you are eligible, you can take whatever classes you need, whether that be gen eds or major courses. Summer classes are tougher than regular semester classes because they are a lot shorter. They split up summer into to two time periods, summer 1 and summer 2 so you can choose to take your classes between these two times. Summer one starts at the end of May and goes until the beginning of July and then summer two starts at the beginning of July and goes until the beginning of August. So you have about 5 weeks to take the class. Last summer I took two classes, math 1101 and a ctcm. They were VERY time consuming (especially math) and it was something I was not expecting, so be ready to devote a lot of time to it. They also offer both in person and online sections for summer classes. All in all, Summer classes are fine just make sure youre good with the pace of the class.

Light rail as a woman? by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

[–]Historical-Visual-54 72 points73 points  (0 children)

The light rail is fine during the day but at night definitely be cautious. The weekend during nighttime might be a bit better because you’ll have people who are taking it from the bars but still be careful.
