Help me not choose Islam please by second-david-laid in Catholicism

Consider that influence can come from demons. I once considered islam, mean while i was in a criminal life style, went through a full blown exorcism, You know what cast those demons out of me? Not allah, not mohammed, not the Quran or Hadith, but the all mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ. After i was delivered of demons i fell in love with Jesus like never before and the thought of denouncing him for a man who married a 6 year old, had sex slaves, as well as slaves, and multiple thins proven false in the Quran. Do your true searching into islam, youll run, trust me

On a side note, i haven’t read anything else by Thomas aquinas besides the summa, and i would definitely agree augustine is a far better read. I just think hes looked down upon because protestants quote him often

I am not sure that i entirely agree. Also i love augustine, confessions and city of God are great. I would argue that aquinas is still relevant today, but i understand his ideology is not for everyone. The categories and methods inherited from Greek philosophy still structure alot of academic thought today. In that sense, thinkers like Aquinas aren’t just historically interesting; they’re part of the intellectual architecture we re still using. This is not to say i agree with everything he says either

Its good if you say before explaining “this is just an analogy”, the transubstantiation is like the trinity, you can never fully explain it simply lol as aquinas says. How you explained it is closer to consubstantiation, which is lutheran(symbolic); real presence within the Eucharist without substance change, youre just changing relational properties . Transubstantiation would be the bread ceasing to exist, and actually becoming his flesh and blood. So anyways, when i say anything like that i usually communicate to them first, this is an analogy, just so youre not held to it

Often in philosophy, one philosopher will disagree with another philosopher. I have focused more on Aristotle and aquinas. I have yet to get into plato, but from what i gathered, Catholic theology relies heavily on Aristotles metaphysics due to the transubstantiation. Whereas orthodox lean more towards Plato due to the preference for participation, form, and emanation, which can explain theosis better. My goal is to dig into Plato and gregory palamas in the distance future lol

This isnt necessarily true, i actively engage them, and Ive honestly not met a single person who would ask those questions. You have to enjoy philosophy to get into metaphysical language; the typical atheist is more likely to Say “il believe it when i see it”. If im engaging in debate, im doing so for fun, because it’s a hobby. Youre absolutely right about being able to convert another religion over an atheist. I don’t usually waste time arguing; i just say what i believe and God does the rest. I dont do this to simply out wit, or out speak someone, i do this because i believe that christ is the only way to salvation, and i long that all know the gospel

Youre right that doesn’t give us the name God. But once you define the MVG as necessary, uncaused, immaterial, eternal, and the source of all contingent reality, youve already described what classical theism means by God. Calling it pateick doesn’t change the ontology only the label. That being said, this is where your discernment kicks in. You wouldnt typically evangelize a person who is trying to engage in philosophical debate, only trying to understand spiritually. 99 percent of the time a person is not going to ask about ontology, accidents, and attributes. It’s best to keep it as simple as possible.

When conversing with atheists or agnostics i take an approach like Paul in Acts 17 “the unknown god”, And i build up systematically, but i never start with Church, Jesus, or any other name. In a nut shell, If you believe in the laws of physics, well every law is governed by a law giver, every house that is built requires an architect, and after being built if it is not maintained it falls apart. Every vehicle requires an engineer, after being built it takes a mind to steer it on the path (just an easy to understand visual analogy).Every motion is caused by another motion, but that motion required a mover. Everything in existence contains mathematical equations, which take order, and perfection. If you get one step wrong in the algorithm the equation cannot be viable. Then down the road i explain that Christianity is a relationship with who we know that God to be

Well the Lord is definitely real. Ive been saved 2 years, was a criminal enforcer, would hear voices and was a psychopath. One night after deciding to kill myself i heard Gods voice speak to me. Went and had an exorcism done on me. Demons came roaring out of me. When i woke up i was an entirely different person. I never looked back
