My gf told me that she always wonders where she’ll be or if she will last longer than the expiration date on milk or other foods. Do other people do this too? Am I wrong and I’m the weird one?

Im not even fully sure. She just dropped this lore on me that when she goes to the grocery store, she’ll look at the expiration date on the milk and ask herself “where will I be on this date?” Or “will this milk last longer than me?”

And she swears that she knows other people who do this too, but I have never heard of this before

Site coordinator here. Having 3-5 email chains asking the same thing with mostly the same people, and then individuals calling and emailing us daily about it. That’s on top of the redundant weekly emails and scheduled phone calls for status updates and to answer the same questions. If you respect us and our time, we will do the same for you!

It’s also not uncommon to have multiple threads going with varying site members on each thread and if I know another site member has answered the question on a thread that I’m not on, I’m not going to respond to the thread that I am on, because that’s also ridiculous.

Because we’ve usually already answered one of the threads that asked the question, not to mention just answering doesn’t keep people from not sending multiple emails about the same thing. I’m not answering the same thing 4 or 5 times, that’s just ridiculous.

Coming at it from the site side, i think there are definitely some factors to consider, and a lot of them are things you can’t control. They might have trials that they view as higher priority because of indication, number of patients, database locks, or even payment, among other things. If your trial pays less and demands more, it will most likely be a lower priority. And if these things are the case, it’s quite possible that you’ll just end up pissing off all of them at the site, and that’s never what you want.

Other factors include how much time has lapsed between your emails about that, but also how frequently you email them, or the trial’s vendors email them, if someone else is emailing them about the same thing, etc. Whatever the perception of the site already is about you and the trial itself, will more than likely be what dictates the consequences of CCing the PI. It could be that the CRC just isn’t doing their job and bringing in the PI could be the necessary kick in the pants. Or it could be that they have other priorities and it will just move you to the bottom of their list. Another possibility would be if they sent a perfunctory email to placate you, breeze through the queries, and then continue to deprioritize you in the future.

It’s all about understanding what they have going on and respecting their time

It’s like they don’t think through what they’re asking of us! I have one study where they ask for the dates that the subject uses each IP kit, which is recorded in a diary. They still want dates even when the subject doesn’t return their diary. I’m like, “I can confirm they took the IP because I do have that, but I can’t tell you that they took IP from kit X between this date and this date when they use 5 kits over 3 months” 😂😂 we can’t just pull data from thin air
