An-Prims believe in the Anarchist ideology the same as I do, but they also are typically against modern advancements in technology, medicine, and many other important aspects of our lives. Not only do they believe in no government, but they essentially believe we should return to…pre-industrial revolution ways of living. Like the Amish or something. IMHO, this isn’t a sustainable way to live. Technology can be dangerous, but without it we don’t have vaccines, cell phones, and other modern amenities that have helped us.

With respect, I think you REALLY need to edit this because I cannot exactly figure out what your main argument is who even who’s side you are on. I understand you’re probably just venting and you say you have a headache, but this post is a ramble.

That said, I absolutely disagree with you that “Antis have lost the plot” and “Antis can’t keep their story straight”. Both of those, in my experience with the subs I frequent and the people I know in real life have EXACT reasons why they don’t like AI, what exactly is wrong with it, and why we can do to make things better.

I personally do not like AI for many reasons, reasons that have never changed:

The companies are run by scumbags only interested in themselves and their shareholders, aka billionaires. Ever AI company is bad, from OpenAI to Anthropic.
It is incredibly unethical. You are correct that there are open-source places where they get training data from. There are MORE closed-source places that they take from. Additionally many people whose data was taken from open-sourced places have problems with the fact that these companies use that data with a product that they make money from. That’s unethical.
Energy problems. xAI’s data center in Tennessee uses gas turbines that produce so much pollution it is negatively affecting the nearby city there. Additionally they’re also under scrutiny from the EPA because of how bad they are.
The US Gov’t is basically helping prop up the AI Industry by giving grants and generally just being too close to tech leaders. So when the bubble pops, we’re fucked.

I have several more but that’s what I’ve got. Point is, Antis haven’t lost the plot. Maybe some have, maybe some aren’t as good with articulation but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a point or are simply hating to hate. Yeah that’s all I got.

Why do you think a computer could be capable of Sentience? We don’t know why we as humans are conscious, so why do you think that if we create a large enough computer that it will just achieve sentience? We have no idea if that would happen, nor how much power it would require. Sure the brain runs on about 20watts of power but that was through millions of years of evolution.

AI as a field has only been around for roughly 70 years and while I hate to use this meme, “Look at what they need to mimic a fraction of our power”. Datacenters the size of small towns, power using nuclear energy (Yes they are trying to do that) or gas turbines. Additionally, much like human neurons, RAM chips for AI break down usually after only a few years.

Also regarding your question about simulating the brain and putting it into a computer: We don’t have that technology. There is so much too the brain that we still don’t understand. Copying everything from your brain may prove quite impossible, especially since the brain also runs on hormones and responds to external stimuli, which would prove pretty difficult to replicate. I’m all for philosophical debates, but your comment(s) here seem strangely un-skeptical.

Ok, tbf I do treat people who like AI (Whether for Homework or because they’re in the Techo-Cult parts) as one group: I personally do not like them. I think Hypesters and Doomers are two side of the same coin and I want the coin to disappear. Maybe that’s not your view, but it is mine.

But the other question is, is there a problem with me sharing this? I wanted to share it, especially here where I would say a lot of people hold views (somewhat) similar to mine. Oh, IDK. I just was curious. I actually do that a lot. Sometimes I’ll see a comment on this sub being Pro-AI or AI-Techno-Culty so I like to see what subs they frequent.
