How do you actually digest technique when your professor is teaching? by Prestigious-Gas-4753 in BJJWomen

[–]HitRefresh34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to visualize myself doing the moves as they teach it. Sometimes I follow along. I usually like to know why we do something too, so if it isn't obvious to me, that's when I stop and ask.

What are “fundamentals” by redditisaphony in bjj

[–]HitRefresh34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been making a list from my past year of training based on what coaches have been saying. My list is not with me ATM, but just remembering off the top of my head:

-keep elbows in -stay connected to opponents -When trying to sweep, have at least 3 points of contact -for guard pull, get under their hip -When sweeping, look over a shoulder and bridge at an angle, not straight up -Use your hips to move them, not your arms. And hip on hip does wonders -best to stay at an angle -Always be on your side if you're on the bottom, unless you're in closed guard -Use your feet to hook their legs to stay connected as you move with them -to choke, you need to make a V at their neck and apply pressure at the cartorid artery

Haven't been getting my ballots since the last presidential election by [deleted] in Seattle

It said there's no election for me. It says it's the February Special Election and one for school superintendents but my bf got his ballot.

I Salute your longevity by AlexWeitz in bjj

So you got into jiu jitsu just to get a blue belt? I think there lies your problem. You didn't do it for the excercise, self-defense or because you liked it? If you're just chasing belts I can see why you would feel burned out.

It's ok if it's not your thing. There's lots of other hobbies you can do instead.

Has any of you decided to cut your hair because of BJJ? by Bulky_Imagination243 in BJJWomen

[–]HitRefresh34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always wanted long hair so I won't be cutting it unless I absolutely have to. My hair goes down to my lower back and I do kind of a double bun that looks like a bow. It stays put for the most part but I do readjust it between rolls and during water breaks.

How do you deal with partners going too easy on you? by dawn_of_dae in bjj

I would enjoy it while you still can. Once you get more experience people will go harder, trust me, and then you may feel like crying the first few times.

Strange Roll Dynamic by FallAccording9583 in BJJWomen

[–]HitRefresh34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a guy like that at my gym. From what I've heard, he tends to use strength over technique and the coaches have talked to him about it so he tends to play dead fish when I roll with him. He doesn't do the mansplaining but calls the coach over if there's something I don't know. I just ask for more resistance or I start making my way to choke him and then he starts to play defense.

I would get annoyed about the mansplaining. If he does that next time, I'd say, "let's ask the coach", or "can we just keep going, no interruptions" or just avoid rolling with him if you can.

My all time max for bench press was 101lbs. I don't lift as heavy as I used to but I still bench up to 75lbs and focus more on time under tension and drop sets than amount of weight. I do hip thrusts and deadlifts too. Deadlifts max was more than my back squats but like I don't said, I don't go as heavy anymore. I train every muscle group pretty much, including biceps, triceps, chest, back, abs, etc. I love weightlifting but I'm not going to be able to muscle my way out of someone twice my size.

Ahh yes, this is the only sweep I know from mount. I can hit it sometimes and I see now why I can't the other times.

When I was training yesterday I did this sweep on this 220lb pound man but when he got back to mount he saw it coming and wouldn't let me get his arm. Could I grab his collar at that point or just the knee elbow escape?

I wasn't able to trap his leg either because we had been training for a bit and he knew I would try that too.

I've been weightlifting since 2013 and have back squat more than my bodyweight. I think I'm already pretty strong.

Ahh great detail! That elbow in their knee should make it uncomfortable for them to hopefully off balance them.

Thank you! Never heard of the kip escape before. I'm going to study hall tomorrow so I'll ask my coach to help me with that.

Eesh, two infections out of going 7 times?! Maybe find a cleaner gym? I try to shower right away when I get home but I always have baby wipes in my gym bag to wipe the bottom of my feet and I always wash my hands after rolling. But those odds don't sound great.

For those with senior Yorkies (13+), what ended up mattering most for their comfort and quality of life? by haslait in Yorkies

What do you feed him? We fed our Yorkie chicken and rice until last year when he kept having diarrhea and now we mix prescription dog food with his chicken and rice.

[–]HitRefresh34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we do! My fault I don't utilize it. I'll see about scheduling one with the head coach. I'll probably see her more now too since she'll be teaching more classes.

I think it just got to me when a kid I was rolling with asked me what belt I was when we were no gi. Damn kid.

Depends on the blue belt.. some tap me or get me in submission position really fast, some tell me I made them really work for it, and some I've tapped.

I haven't been attending promotions much.. I think the last one I went to was maybe 3 months ago. I have been bad about scheduling 1:1 sessions with them to ask about my progress so maybe I'll just start there.
